Engine Swap time <frown> DIY or no? (Long)
Well unfortunately my engine has absolutely had it or at least close. After an overheating issue and a botched water pump install, nissan is saying that its gonna cost 1400+ to fix my engine which is making a terrible noise somewhere around the timing chain. Long story on what the noise is and why but the jist of it is i need a new engine. I already have someone that has one to give me for a great price with half the mileage my car had, but what i'm wondering is it this a do it yourself job, or should i get raped by a mechanic to do it for me. I have some car know how, i did do the water pump install (almost right) and afew other installs and stuff, i'm just wondering how hard its gonna be. What i've been told is all i need is a cherry picker to lift the engine out and put the new one in, and its just a matter of undoing a few harnesses and unpluging all the electrical stuff + a few hoses. Am i being mislead or is this not such a hard job. I've been told that the whole water pump ordeal was harder than an engine swap because it involves actually going inside the engine somewhat whereas the engine swap is just switching stuff out. Lemmie know, any experience's you guys have had, thanx.
swapping engines is a lot harder than it sounds, as it also requires removing the transmission and a whole bunch of other accessories. No offense intended, but if you screwed up the water pump install, then I'd leave the engine swap to a proffesional...
