Question regarding brakes and CAD plating

Hi all,

I thought that, before I drop money to have my new Brembos plated with cadmium, I'd ask the question:

Is it worth it to have them CAD plated, if they are already zinc-plated? Will CAD plating really be that much more beneficial in minimizing rust as to justify the extra cost?

Is CAD plating worth the extra cash of potentially removing the zinc plating, and then CAD plating them?

Thanks in advance!

Mike

If the rotors are plated then you need do nothing. I have the Stillen setup, Brembo plated bla bla bla. Running them for a year now and the hub portion remains clean. Never any rust, always a nice clean look to them. Soap and water cleans them up just fine.

CAD plating holds up better than zinc. It depends on how bad the conditions are for rusting and how often you are willing to rinse and clean your wheels and hubs.

If you are in a high rain and snow environment then I would drop the money for CAD if you are worried about the potential for rust. Really its more aesthetic than performance or practical because the plating is rubbed off the rotor portion where the pad makes contact anyhow.

COol. I'm in Canada, where the salt and snow are in high supply. BUT, the cost is $18 per disc, so not sure if I want to blow the extra $$, since they are already zinc plated.
Decisions decisions
THanks
Mike
