What does ECU code "Vehicle Speed Sensor" mean ?

Hey, i got tired of my service engine soon light and decided to check and reset the ecu. I got 1 long flash and 4 shorts, according to the decorder its a "Vehicle Speed Sensor". What does that mean and what should I do from here? I went ahead and reset the ecu. The service engine light is now off. Do i need to look into the vehicle speed sensor reading i got and get it fixed, again what is a vehicle speed sensor ?

well i have been working my on Vehicle speed sensor since the past week, cause i am getting the same error code and also A/T signal to ECU code (0504)
The speed sensor tells the ECU how fast your are going. If its not working properly your gas mileage will drop to like 22mpg (just like me). Also your Cruise control will probably not work.
I think its pretty important to get this fix. its about $30 bucks from the deal, and easy to replace. It is visable from the rear right corner of your engine bay. its all the way in the bottom on top of the transmission. Its hard to get at if your car is not on a lift but still doable. Its secured by just one 10mm bolt.
good luck!

thanks my cruise control is also out. so i could be getting poor gas mileage because of this ? and another thing i reset the ecu and the light is off now, do you think i can expect it to come back on ... im planning a tune up real soon, so i will have them take a look at the speed sensor..

i am pretty sure it will come back on...cause it did come on for a reason. If you havent fixed anything it wont just disappear that easily, but we can always hope. Drive it around for a few days and see if it comes back...but even if it is...its not a big deal very easy to change and cheap.
