tires for '97 SE

I need new tires bad, I was thinking to go with pirelli's, they're a little cheaper than michelin's and dunlop's. I have the SE w/16in rims, any suggestions?

I loved my Nitto NT450s when I had my 16" SE rims. They're quiet,
have great grip, ride nice and seemed to have good durability. I stuck with the Nitto brand when I got my 17s but went to 555s - for some reason I seem to need the additional traction now. Anyhow, I've run Michelin XGTs, Pirelli P7000SS, stock GoodYears and have to say the Nittos offer the best bang for the buck, IMHO.

I was in the same boat. Was considering the Yoko 100ES but they didn't come in OEM size. Tho they came in 225/50 but heard a lot of guys complaining about "unsightly bulge". A couple of guys liked that size referring to it as "NASCAR wide". I went conservative and stuck with the OEM 215/55/16s. Anyway, after checking the forum it seemed that everyone had great reviews of the Dunlop Sport A2s. It's all weather high performance tire. Tire Rack had some good reviews also. So I went with them. Went to Sears and got them to price match Tire Racks price but got a bit ripped. They asked me how much was shipping from Tire Rack ($30) and added it on to the price. I wasn't thinking fast enough to tell them that Tire Rack wasn't going to charge me GA sales tax The next time I will buy from Tire Rack and since I have access to mounting equip do it myself and save some $$$. The tire rides well, quiet and corners like it is on rails. Haven't had the chance to try it in the rain yet. I do have one problem. A shake in the steering wheel is apparant at 65-70 and up. This wasn't there with the OEM Michielins. I took it back to Sears 3 times for rebalancing and still shakes. I'm thinking of taking it to the dealer and having them do a suspension check (bad shock, wheel bearing?????) and if that's ok then do an alignment. I'm going to wait a bit to put some miles on the tires and then rotate the fronts to back and see if the problem goes away or stays. Have to wait and see. Bottom line, the Dunlops are good tires. You probably won't go wrong especially if you need an all wx tire. Cheers
