I know this has been brought up on the forum so many million times. Sorry. But heres my thought. I usually use 89 octane, or whatever is the cheap stuff. I used to put in premium every once in a while, but havent for a long time. The other day I put premium in. The Max is just loving it. Seems to run better and have quicker response. But I dont want her to get "spoiled" on this stuff. (You guys know what I mean, if you put prem. in for a long time and the suddenly swith to reg. She runs like $hit!) Do you think Nissan Should have required this stuff for the 3rd gen?

I use only 91.

 

What state are you in? Maybe you need to switch gas stations. Sounds to me like you've been pumping some lousy gas for a while.

It could also be your timing is way advanced and your car was retarding the timing to keep from pinging or pre-igniton.

The "premium" gas is just a marketing term. The only difference between it and regular is the octane level. The quality of the gas is just the same.

 

I thought premium is required, or at least highly recommended in the book?

quick edit: nevermind, i noticed you have the VG, they had different recommendations if i recall, been awhile since i lookd though, nonethelss i use premium always

 

Yea That makes sense. And I know the diff between octane and premium, thats just how I was stating it. But still, the premium has additives also. Im not saying the quality is different. How else can you explain the "spoil" factor? I do think my car is running better on higher octane. So I'm going to start to use it when I can afford it.

I live in Kansas. Usually use Texaco. But switched to Philips and it seems to be better to me.

 

since they took away the 93 or 92

 

Oh man that sucks......regardless I use 93 octane even if it is a VG, its much better in the long run.

 

yeah sometimes I mix about 4 gallons of 103 in

 

u vg guys really gotta get a manual...clearly states that 87 is fine but higher octane will give better performance...geez

Thats funny. I have a VG. Should have checked in the manual to begin with. There you have it! Higher octane gives better performance. I knew there was something.........

I have been noticing a difference while switching from 93 to 89 or 91. The manual clearly says higher octane is recommended.
