SUp guys! New to the forum. I've been trying to decide over getting the 2003 Maxima or the new 2004 TSX. I was over at the TSX forum with this debate, but of course with the biasness of the TSX over there it's not much help. So I'm here to get some REAL good feedback on the 2003 Maxima. People keep chanting about how great the handling of the TSX is. Could someone give me feedback? Anyone who owns a maxima and has test drove the TSX, please help. I'm not big on the new maxima? anyone else?

Go test drive both cars yourself. That will be more valuable that what we might be able to tell you.

go take both cars for a test drive and then come back with your questions. Yes, the TSX probably handles better than the Max, but the TSX is woefully lacking in power when compared to the VQ35 in the 2K3!

Plus the tsx is only a 4banger.

 

Maxima all the way. I drove my friends 2002 and it was @$*@ fast. While driving normally, it was comfortable and roomy. The TSX look pretty cool, but I would be mad at myself for buying a 4banger

 

i buying a tsx for for new car. buuuuuut thats cause i already own a maxima.

 

The TSX will definitely handle better and be more nimble. But the 03 Maxima will smoke the crap out of one, even if the Maxima is an automatic and the TSX is the 6spd.

Believe it or not, the TSX and 2003 Maxima actually weigh almost exactly the same, too (3200-3300lb). But the Maxima has 240-245HP and 265 TQ (rated numbers are not accurate) while the TSX only has 200HP and 166TQ - almost 100 lb-ft less!!


If you want to go fast get the Maxima.

If you're more concerned about looks and style get the TSX, but you'll be paying more money for a significantly slower car. And a TSX is just a Euro market Honda Accord with some more equipment anyways. Nothing special, IMO.

3.5L VQ-V6, ~270tq vs. 2.?L I-4, 166tq.

It's basically do you want raw power and sexiness, or do you want a small, torqueless "euro" looking car that handles great? Do you want your engine/exhaust to make a throaty howl, or do you want it to make a puny whine/fart? It's all up to you.

The question here is, do you want to have to let your friends know when your flooring it, or do you want them to find out on their own? Without torque, your gonna be doing a lot of explaining.

 

TSX for twisties and road course...

TSX for the "voice activated Navigation system"

TSX for the "50,000mile bumper-bumper, no hassle warranty, we even give you a car when you get an oil change" (my bro has an RSX & that's how they treat him at the dealership)

TSX for the suspension package

TSX for the HID lights that aren't simple to steal (like mine are)

TSX for fuel economy

TSX for high resale value

TSX for tons of performance upgrades (soon to be)

TSX for fewer rattles (assumption)

MAXIMA for tons of room (comfy for 5-adults)

MAXIMA for "hey look at me I dare to look different"

MAXIMA for more "go"

MAXIMA for the "cheap intro price" but if you go with a Max, and opt for everything a TSX has standard, you'll end up paying the same (side airbags, Traction Control, etc)

Thanks for all the tips guys. I'm contacting some dealers to see if i can still swing a 2003 fully loaded SE, 6 speed. I like torque and power. The thing I'm a bit concerned about is...do I want a 4 year old looking car, or a brand new stylish car? Still a college student, so might be hoping to find a 2002 SE, 6 Speed for less than or about $19k. THe SE comes with sports cloth..... what exactly is this sports cloth? Is it like the IS300? what's so "sport" about it? How's the leather in these new maximas? I've been in a 99 maxima with leather, not such great leather, IMO.

 

tsx has a top notch interior, but it is very slow

 

the cloth is not bad in the 2k2s. i have leather in mine and people compliment it all the time. im a college student with a max and id def. recommend the max over the tsx anyday.

 

Why couldn't they put that sweet new V6 from the Accord and the 6spd into the TSX? I'd go into hock up to my eyeballs for something like that.

Keep in mind that the TSX is the Euro/J-spec Honda Accord where the V6 motor was never part of its development. If that the new J30A motor were an option in the TSX, it would cannibalize TL sales.

 

200 hp and 166 torque? so a 4th gen would give it great competition then right? if both auto or both manual?

200 hp/166 torque vs 190hp/205 torque

 

A 4th Gen will beat a TSX manual vs manual and auto vs auto pretty easily.

I can't wait to start lighting up some TSX's away from stoplights.
