Stock SE struts vs GR-2 and others. Need opinions

Need comparison/opinion on the stock SE struts vs upgrades (KYB, Tokicos, etc.). Are they that much stiffer, even w/o lowering springs? What about with lowering springs? How long do the stock struts last (dependability with aftermarket springs)? I'm looking for a set up still comfortable for commuting but yet tight enough for occasional local autocross. And, not after coil-overs for the cost factor on a daily driver. So, damping should be increased, i.e. no bouncing, but not too much to be jarring. I know that there have been threads on this but took too long and so many bits of info everywhere. Thanks for your inputs.

KYBs are lesss stiff than stock tocrapos... and offer less bounce and more resilience to bumps

I dig the AGX a lot, they are noticably stiffer on Maxspeeds, but still a good ride and on the highway they glide even smoother than stock. I had them on before I went to 18s and they were great, the new wheels made it a little stiffer, but the handling is so sweet
