Dallas Nissan Enthusiasts Taillight Mod

hey guys... been procrastinating about showing this. It is a "smoked" diamond clear a$$.

This is my buddy with a 99 GLE.

My 95 is the car on the right and the middle car is a 99 SE-L.

Some REAL pretty ***** for a really cheap price. We thought we'd share our find.

Thanks to dtholman for this awesome idea!

This was discused about a year ago. I used RC car window tint spray. Paint the factory lenses from the inside for best results.

Yeah... I'll go ahead and do a write up. It's a cake walk!

I got lucky and got my all clear tails from a member here that wanted to do the skyline tails with altezzas, so I bought his all clears and made the DTM (Dallas Taillight Mod).

This exact procedure has not been discussed from what I could find before the search was removed. The reason it's called the Dallas Nissan Enthusiasts Taillight Mod is because we have a large Nissan group here in Nissan and one of our members came up with the idea. There are 5 Maxima's with this mod. 2 Black, 1 Sterling Mist, 1 Pearl White (about to be 2), and my Blue 95.

Yes, that car in the middle is a sterling mist.

As far as the red piece removed, that was a choice darrick made to keep. The other black max with the mod took his out and with a normal halogen peanut bulb it looks kinda fugly IMO.

To better explain the process, it's VERY similar to the diamond tail mod. After doing this mod on these Max's, I could never understand why anyone would put anything back in the tails.

Quick Instructions:
---------------------------------
1) Take apart turn signal taillight and remove amber plastic.
2) Spray paint the inside of the turn signal housing. (we just covered up the other part and used black flat spray paint from Autozone. we considered doing black gloss, but decided against it :dunno: )
3) Take the reverse light tail assembly off the car open it up the same way and remove the clear insert and spray paint the inside of that housing black as well
4) When painting, be sure to put on a few coats and get it all in there.

I guess I'll have to write a full write up on the subject soon.

Thanks for the props guys... we like them too!

Chris

Looks sweet. Hey CMOE221. I think we'll do this instead of red/clears on your ride tonight.

Can you paint the yellow ones black and get the same effect? Or would that not work? I've got the clear inserts all set to go in, just waiting for a nice day to do it. I'd like to tint/paint them too, just don't want to *** it up.

We didn't put ANY inserts into the tails. We took the yellow insert out of the turn signal assembly and the clear insert out of the reverse light assembly. We painted the inside of the housing (the chrome plastic) black with normal everyday flat black spray paint we picked up at AutoZone.

Can you take a picture of the tails at night, with the lights on?
BTW, has any one done this on a beige Max? Pics please.

Thanks

How is the visibility during the day? The regular clears mod is bad enough but spraying the whole thing with flat black paint (even though there's no inserts) doesn't sound like it helps. I like the way it looks but I'm hesitant to make my turn signals even harder to see.

We haven't done it to a beige YET. SeximaGTR is supposed to donate his soon! Pics of that to come.

The visibility is fine during the day, IMO. Mine are pretty bright and so are Darrick's. We need to go out and take a bunch of pics with the lights at night and during the day.

OK. We did it on CMOE221's black 97 last week. We used gunmetal paint instead of true black. Looks awesome. Now we're gonna do the AE headlights on his ride tonight with gunmetal as well. This is gonna be sweeeet. Thanks DNE.

Yeah. Pull apart the housings. A ll four of them. Remove all the lenses (orange and clear) and paint the chrome housing whatever color you want. Then reheat and put back the housings. you're done. It's easier than red/clears. No damn lens to cut.
