I have the Stillen Intake and the Cattman Y pipe. For the past few months my car RPMs dip below idle level. It turned off a few times also. i took it into the dealership, Nissan looked at it and they came up with this:

FC9002647
Customer Symptonm:MIL is on and the engine runs roughly
Incident DescriptionTC p0100, Mass Air Flow Sensor is stored in self diagnosis memory.
Root Cause:Poor air filtration
Service procedure:The sensing element of the Mass Air Flow Sensor can be damaged by dirt and dust in the incoming air stream. When monitoring with CONSULT II Data Monitor, the output voltage will remain around 1.0V and will not respond when revving the engine. If these symptoms occur, replace the Mass Air Flow sensor. Then clean the inside of the air cleaner especially on the "clean air" side of the filter. Also install a new genuine air filter element.

They said that to replace the Mass Air Flow sensor it would cost over $500 if the problem persists. Guess what? I get the car back and it does it again. The sheet they gave me also says, "Note air intake has been modified and the stock air cleaner has been removed bypassing air intake temp sensor. ADVISED CUSTOMER OF NON NISSAN PARTS"

I also have the Y pipe and this problem came in around the time of the pipe in Oct. Is the Y pipe possibly the reason or the Intake? Should I bring my car into a shop to check to see if my mods are done correctly? How can I tell if the Mass Air Flow Sensor is damaged? How could this piece be damaged?

Please help me. You guys are my best friends. Help a poor Maxima owner out.

Who did your mod?

The MAF is pretty fagile. If you touched it or dropped it, it could be damaged. Did the dealer change the MAF, and it still does it. Why don't you just put everything back? This way you will know what really is causing the problem.

which cattman SS y-pipe do you have?

I don't have a y-pipe myself but in my search for one I found out that Cattman has 2 different versions. Noticing that you're in CA.....It is important to consider the 2 different pipes, the CA/NLEV Spec and FED Spec Y-Pipes. Brian Catts has warned before that applicating a FED Spec Y on a CA/NLEV spec Max/I30 would NOT work properly and may cause problems. I wanted to buy BIOMAX's cattman ss y-pipe but his Y-pipe is Fed Spec. Anyway, just my 2 cents, might want to email brian about which one you have if you don't know.

I had a friend put in the Intake. He strapped the sensor to the side of the car because it was hanging otherwise. I have the California Y pipe. The only shop I could find in the area was a nasty Mexican auto shop. I guess the pipe should take half an hour to put in but they did it in ten minutes. Is the O2 sensor just a wire? At the end, the mechanic put the wire in the hole in the Y pipe. It was kind of strange. Like it was a shoelace or something. I did not get the MAF changed because of the $546.13 price. I wanted to check with you guys, the real pros first before I do anything that is costly and unnecessary.

What!!? O2 sensor is NOT just a wire!! Its a white wire with a probe at the end! I sure hope your O2 sensor isn't still attached to your stock Y-Pipe. That would be bad.

It is on the new Y pipe. It was the way he put it in. I thought I heard this is a delicate piece that can break easy. He just slid the wire into the hole. Like shoelace into a hole. It seems like it moves around a lot in my pipe. Is this normal?

Okay, this is not good. The O2 does not just slip into the hole, it screws onto the hole and if the wires are in the hole that means your O2 was cut off and just the wires are in there. You need to go get a new O2 from the dealer and connect it and screw it on. This should fix all your problems.....

I would defintely ***** the shop that installed that ypipe and make them pay for a new sensor if you can...there not cheap $90~

$90 for a new O2? Do I need to pay big bucks for the sensor to be put in? Where should I buy one of these. I am gussing Nissan will rip me off. As far as the installation place, they don't speak any english. They were a pain in the ***. I will leave them alone. If anyone needs a Y pipe put in, and you happen to be in the Mexican ghetto, don't go to Canela's Auto service" They don't know what they are doing

Dude, if they just stuck the 02 wires back into the pipe, your in trouble. Get under your car and confirm if you have the sensor in there or not. Or if the sensor is screwed in or not.

I don't think anyone can help until you can confirm this.

why don't go and fix it for him.....look under the car yourself.....it's only a day and a few hundred bucks sacrifice on your part....

That way, you can sleep tonight!

See.....I went nearly 24 hours without hounding you, proving it can be done. I do have willpower....

DOM,

Your posts don't specify whether something besides a wire is stuck in the hole of your y pipe. Look here under the O2 sensor section and see if it looks like this.....If not, you need to get a new one....

It does cost around that, but I would do what Jeff said, make sure its not there first. You have a total of 3 o2's on the car, and the front 2 are on that pipe on both down sections before it goes into a y. You just need to look and make sure its there. You can install it, its pretty easy! Just need the right open end wrenches.
