Bad quarter mile time w/mods
Bad quarter mile time w/mods
I went to the track last night and had about 4-5 runs. I think I did everything your supposed to do (small burnout, let a little air out of front tires etc.). The first two runs I accidentily went through the water box but then started to avoid it. I just wasnt getting any traction in 1st gear (automatic). My best time was a 16.2 with a .75 reaction time, but I had another time where I got a 16.4 with a 1.2 reaction time. All my times whatever they were ended up with 85 miles/hour. I am a stock cali spec auto with a Budget Y-pipe, and Maximum tuning VB mod. I was hoping to get into high 15's but I must be doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan

What was the weather like? What is the track elevation? What are your 60 foot times? What other equipemnt was in your car (stereo, tools etc)? How much fuel was in the car?
Depending on all of these factors, your car might not be running slower than normal at all...

Hey, thanks for the replys, sorry I didnt post sooner but ive been working crazy hours lately. It was at New England dragway in NH. It wasnt raining, but it rained earlier that day, so it was a little humid. All my 60' times were between 2.53 and 2.88. Not good at all. I am not sure what this means, maybe just means that traction was really bad. All I had in my car was my spare, a small (10 lb) bag, and me (all 320 lbs of me) so it was like having two regular people in the car. Not much I can do to avoid that. I was really hoping to get into the high 15's with the mods I have, and I think its possible, I must be doing something wrong. Any help or opinions would be great.
Thanks,
Dan

I ran a 15.557 with just an intake..with a 2.3 60'.
Torque braked at 2000rpm..the secret is not flooring it right away, but rather keeping your foot at the same position while letting go of the brake, and then floor it about a split second later. that way you will not spin all through 1st gear.

every .1 you lower your 60' = .2 lower ET. Looks like you have room for improvement. I don't think it was your car. A decent driver should be able to pull 2.2xx with some practice.

yeah I would talk Isaac, doing 30 second burnouts or until the announcer says 'Wow, and thats from a front-wheel-drive car!'" Man if he also knew you were an auto, theyd be blown away.

You actually did that at the track? What were you running against? The other driver must've been like "WTF?"

Burnouts with a non-limited slip equipped car is kinda pointless. Sure, you'll get one tire roasting, but the other one will just sit there. When you go to launch, the one that wasn't spinning before will be the one spinning off the start. Street tires are so dumb for drag strip racing
