Do you think it's a good idea to get a type R? this is a serious question.
After I get out of school this semeser, if I can find a used Type R in the DC area, I can probably buy it. Of course, I'm gonna have to convince my mom to take my car (and the payment as well).
this is not a daydream. I'm 25 and I'm really seriously considering the Type R, but I'm afraid I'll get sick of it soon...........
For the price you'll pay for a used Type R, you can get a mint condition, low mileage 300ZX TT or a Supra......
choices, choices...........
what do you think is the best buy?
I dont know what those cars are like because I've never driven one!
I like the 300zx tremendously, but I'm hesistant to get one because the engine technology of the 3z engine and the VQ can't be compared.....I think we are all spoiled by the VQ30.

has anyone ever explaned to you that Integra's just can't handle?
I race SCCA Solo2 and will tell you that they look like they are going to fall over in the turns...sure the Type-R will run over any N/A 4-banger out there, but still it comes down to the basics...The GS-R and Type R run in the same Stock class as my Camry V6 SE...Go w/ a Z-car you will be much happier...trust me

I'd go with the Z, but maybe i am biased.
Once you feel the power you will be addicted. Either the Supra or Z would be great. The RX-7 will be a little trickier once you start to mod it. Not that the Type R can't be made fast but, just feeling the turbos kicking in and hearing them scream is just awesome!

Ya, you are right about the question of treatment,
But I've seen that to be true with most any sports cars. It's hard to find a Civic(econobox) anymore that hasn't gotten the snot beat out of it, not to mention Z's and such. One of the things going for the RX7 is you could buy turbo kits and other mods from Mazda, allowing it to be covered under factory warantee. Not to many other car dealers (other than TRD) have that ability....
As with any other used car, you have to be careful.
I would never buy a modified RX-7, but there are many RX-7's out there that have not been modded out. The RX-7 is quite reliable in stock form. As long as the oil was changed regularly and the car never overheated the car should be ok.
I was debating between an RX-7 and 300zx, but i picked the 300zx. The reason is because i do want to mod it and i don't want to worry about blowing apex seals.
In my opinion the Type R is not in the same category as the Supra, RX-7 or 300zx.

There will be a new ITR in 2003 or 2004, so by then your used ITR will not be as cool =). A nice Supra will cost you over $30K. How long are you going to keep the car? If it's only 2-3 years, go for a ITR. If you plan on keepig for more than 5 years, since you are 25, I would stay away from the boy racer type of car. It won't be so cool driving an ITR when you are 30. I want to be driving a BMW, Lexus or SUV when I'm 30.
You're in the DC area right........
I was checking one of those Auto Trader mags that 7-11 sells and I saw a couple 95-97 Supra TTs for around $15-20k, pretty good, I think! they are in the edition Auto Trader with the black Lincoln Navi on the front cover!

i agree with doug....
RX-7 is a wicked car...
but it is quite unreliable...
even if well maintained...and never modified...that motor just always has problems...
I would reccomend getting a low mileage Supra TT...
But try to find one with 1 orig owner (pref. over age 65!)..
The Supra TT motor is TOUGH...one of the TOUGHEST around...
so it's one of the few that can withstand abuse and still run pretty much problem free for a long time...
My vote: Supra TT
PS: in my opinion the best looking and most power potential of the choices you gave...not to mention Toyota reliability.

I was very interested in buying a '97+ SupraTT last year, and I did intensive search on it, I found out the general pricing at that time was, a '97 TT with 30k miles, was at least $30k(they usually start asking ~$33k). '98 was more, some even close to $40k(that's the price when it was new in '98). now i don't think you want '96, since in '96 only auto for turbo, then go further back to '95, it was hard to find a low milage one.
And i was just looking for fun again a while back, i don't think their value dropped much if any(why would it?).
so for the price of a used type-R, let's say a bit over $20k. i really doubt you can find a good supraTT. 300zxTT is usually a bit cheaper, but since the last model year is '96, not many with low milage is out there, if you do find one that's garage queen, i donbt $20k will do anyway.
I drove a '96 Supra TT, and was thoroughly unimpressed, for the sole reason that it was automatic. Why on earth would you make a car like that with an automatic?! It was so hard to get the turbos to running where I wanted them, and be able to use the powerband in an effective way. I would definitely go with a 97TT if you could find one for a good price. Beautiful car.
