Rear spring rates: Tein, Eibach, Sprint, etc..
Rear spring rates: Tein, Eibach, Sprint, etc..
Does anyone have the rates for the various rear springs available for the Maxima? I have Tein springs installed in my Maxima and I do not like the rear spring rate at all. I don't want the stock spring, but I will reinstall it if there isn't a happy medium(I am thinking the Eibach rear spring may be my ticket).
FYI I drove the car with only the front Tein springs for many miles before installing the rears. I believe the KYB GR2s and stock springs would be a much better ride at this point.

Ok, I JUST called TEIN:
If I understand the ratios, lower number = LESS STIFF SPRING RATE.
Anyone feel free to correct me if you know for sure.
TEIN's are NOT a HI-PERF spring, but a LOWERING spring designed to work with the STOCK shocks/struts.
The rates are:
201 lbs. fr / 269 lbs. rr
I'll have to go back and check another thread to see some others, but I swear this is VERY low in comparison to say, SPRINT's or EIBACH's.
Looks like any performance upgrades will be gained from the SHOCK/STRUTs that we install afterwards on the TEINS.
No WONDER the guys with the GR-2's are better-off than stock.
YOOGIE:
Could you give us some more insight as to how your Max rides with that set-up???
Do you have FSB, RSB?? Stock wheels/tires??
What are you trying to achieve? Compliant yet sporty, or autocross HARD???
Need the INFO!

I have the sprints on OEM struts for like 18,000 miles and it has been very sporty and comfortable. Lately though my struts feel like they may be about to go. I also have an RSB. I love the ride the sprints give me, and my car sits even.

My impression of the ride is excellent on good pavement. It is bouncy and a control problem on broken surfaces. So far, my impression is that a lot of it is coming from the rear suspension. I am going to give the Tein springs some more time to "settle" in, as it has been posted they need some miles(I have about 200 miles on them now).
I run the Progress RSB and 19" wheels/tires. I have played with the air pressure in the tires extensively and found pressures that nearly equal the stock ride on 17"(before Tein install, 31-32lbs front, 31 lbs rear). With this said, I only wanted the car to have the proper stance and a bit more control to the suspension movements. I would need a custom valved strut at this point, I think, to control the rear of the car(Koni double adjustables would be excellent here). I used these on a auto-cross set up F-body for years and found the adjustabilty to be excellent.

Well you got a point about the ending spring rate but then again all springs will have an insane rate if compared that way. As for the Eibachs, I dont remember were but I saw somewere the fronts are under 200 and the rears are actually approaching 300 so
As for tire pressure im running 40psi in my fronts and 42 in my rears. Adjustability would be awesome so im gessing the best bet for adjustable struts/camber/springrate/ect.. would be the Tein coilovers. Btw im riding on Tokico struts and have, I think its been apprx 1.7K miles on em so far. Control isnt really a problem and I really dont know why peolpe bag on the Toks as much as they do, they arnt that bad. I have nothing negative to say about them.

Well, after a few more miles, the rates seem to be stabilized(as far as feel goes). Not sure what part of the suspension "settles" for the first several hundred miles, but I am guessing the springs a little. I think I am going to put the stock rear spring back in this set up and drive it for a while to compare. If that seems a little weird, I may try to get the Maxspeed, Progress or Sprint rear spring for it(still researching a few of them).
I actually think it isn't necessarily the rear spring or the front spring, but maybe a little more to do with the shocks. I really wish there was an AGX or a Koni double adjust available for the 5 gens, as I truly believe the "bouncy" feeling on rough pavement could be dealt with.
