Koni Sports for 5th Gen?

Ok first my disclamer....If this is old news don't bite my head off As you can see I'm not a n00b, I just drifted awy from this forum for like a year.

I'm looking to get shocks/struts for my ride and was about to go with one of the GD's for the KYB GR2's. I decided to check out www.shox.com to compare prices. While there I noticed that they list Koni Sports for our ride. Now I've been waiting forever for this and never thought they would actually be made so I called shox.com to see if this was listed in error. He said no, I still doubted him so I called Koni. The rep said that they do in fact make KS for 2000-2003.

In all likelyness this is prolly old new here at the org but I just want to make sure. Has anyone installed these? If so can you direct me to a thread where it's spoken about?

Why have I drifted? Well about a year and a half ago some evil ORG members...ahem...TimW, MattCalder, Tanman got me hooked on Unreal Tournament 2003. I'm still hooked

if it is the shock inserts....I think they will be the same as the 4th gen ones. If they are coming out a front strut....that's a different story.

Hopefully they have the full strut this time. Took them two years to develop, it better be someting good.

[OT]Castle Wolfenstein is more fun~ But I quickly got out of it and started to mod my car......[/OT]

They have them on tirerack.com also, but I believe that they are the 4th gen ones b/c it states that the front ones require some modification in order to fit.

if it is shock inserts.....then it should be same as the 4th gen. The rear struts are not on-car adjustable. to adjust the stiffness, you have to take them off the.

IMO, adjustable shocks/struts are useless for daily driver. The softest setting on the Konis is very stiff already. Unless you attend autocross events very often. But on the other hand...all non-adjustable struts for maxima do not seem strong enough to handle lowering springs.

LMAO on this thread...!

Jones'in....what me??

Seriously --

I called TEIN today -- they said they are about 3-4 months away from a coilover system for the 5th gen 16 way full adj. $1000

here's the trick part:

for $380 more, you can opt for the EDFC (Electronic Dampening Force Controller) module, remote mount in the cockpit - includes servo motors for EACH coilover. $380.

Ooooh, yeah!

Cr@p....this car is costing me too much money to mod.

Koni's ARE expensive....think of the coilover for a little more money?!

Oh dang that'd be cool!!

I had Koni sports (yellow) adjustable struts and shocks on a lowered modded '94 Mustang GT coupe. I loved them. They really improved the handling of the car. It was pretty easy to adjust them but you had to stop the car and lift the hood to adjust the fronts. Rears you accessed through the truck by pulling a bit of paneling out of the way to access the top of rear shock towers.

I have used the Koni yellows and the Koni reds on various project cars. I truely wish Koni would offer the double adjustable reds for our rides, as they would keep the aftermarket springs in line. They did fine controlling a tremendous number of spring rate changes from 900lb/in to 450lb/in in a coil-over system I played with. The "bump" adjustment is what I truely want in a shock for any vehicle.

Please post your impressions after you get them installed. I also know of a company back east that custom valves shocks for a reasonable price. I can't find their contact info right now...

I've got TEINS on the way and have been thinking VERY SERIOUSLY about these!!!

I called Koni last week to get some scoop -- what I didn't know (and is stated in this thread) is that the Stock Struts have to be cut-open and modified to house the Koni's, which are INSERTS ONLY.

They are NOT full Strut Assemblies. Be WARNED!

And, as stated previously - the rear Shocks ARE NOT REMOTELY ADJUSTABLE.

This is SOMEWHAT disappointing for me -- but I DESPERATELY want a better suspension solution than TOK's or KYB's!

PLEASE POST your info (install tidbits as well) for us to see when you get these monsters on!!!

Rgds,

I mean the 5th gen Koni might be the same as the 4th gen Koni because you said that it is a shock insert instead of full strut.

4th gen Koni fits 5th gen....several of us have done it.

I have seen the cockpit adjustable Teins on an Is300 and they are obscene ! I must be the only Org member happy with my Tokicos. I had Konis before and they are great , but stiff ride beyond belief !

no need to say sorry I left that post in a hurry. hope the link helped.

if your strut is bent....I dunno if you can still push the insert. if you cant, try to bend it back with a hammber or find another one in a junk yard.
