what is a good price to offer for this car?
what is a good price to offer for this car?
I'm looking at a 1995 Maxima GLE automatic, no sunroof or spoiler (so I guess just basic GLE options like auto climate control and leather) with 225,000 miles. Yes, that's not a typo. It has a gold exterior with black leather interior.
The owner told me that the car was never involved in an accident and had it serviced by Nissan. He is the original owner. These are definite pluses. The only things that he changed were the starter, CV boots, and battery. There is a visible obvious scratch on the rear bumper corner, and the rear passenger door handle needs to be replaced.
What do you guys think? Should I go for it? I really miss my 1996 SE loaded 5spd that I had earlier (sold it almost a year ago). Unfortunately, I don't have as much to spend for a daily driver as I did when I bought my previous Maxima. Any specific things that I should look for? He told me there was no rust. One of my main concerns is that automatic transmission - isn't it typically replaced by the time the car reaches this mileage? The fact that it is an automatic isn't a plus either - I prefer a standard transmission, but doesn't matter now.
What should I offer this guy for the car? I don't like to lowball the guy (obviously he can just reject my offer), but I think the mileage will scare a lot of buyers. He also told me that he went to trade the car in, but they didn't give him the price that he wanted, so he didn't.
Please help me get back in a Maxima! Thanks everyone.

kbb actually said $4500 for a good condition private party sell which is what you'd be doing. that suprises me, my moms car is a 95 SE with almost every option possible and a 100k less miles than this one and they only said $4900 for hers.
I would offer $2500 or less. You ll find out what he s really interested to get for the car.I wouldn t go over $2800. I would personally recommend to get a 5 speed,if that is what you want. You won t be happy otherwise. The mileage is very high, but if the car made it to that figure,I would say the owner took great care of it.
I offered $2500 and he said he'll think about it.
I'm also looking at a 5 speed Maxima, but for more than I was wanting to spend. Then there was this 5 speed Maxima for sale with 160k miles that sold today for $3200. I wish I was able to get that.
Thanks everyone for the replies!
