You mean ground controls and tokico illumina's?

I have never driven with that combo.. AGX & GC's seem to work well.

How much did you pay for them.

Do you know any places that have them for a good price.

ground controls=bad bouncy clunky ride.

if you want coilovers, just save up for the JICs...it's worth it and chances are, you won't have to get another suspension later on.

i know this because all of my friends who had GCs...they all either went back to regular lowering springs or got JICs....i've ridden in a car with GCs and Tokicos/Konis/AGXs....they're all bumpy and clunky...i think you can make the ride little bit better if you told GC to custom spring-rate for your car. just sharing my experience.

you're telling me your GCs have never clunked or popped when you drive into an incline at a sharp angle?

JIC are mad expensive and since I do not race hardcore there is no need for them. Come on 1400 for coilovers plus like 300 for shocks y not just get an air suspension?!?!?!?

exactly! Irvine78....go to my homepage...i did some modifications to my gc's to stop the noise. I had some popping noises, when i first got them, as i turned...but that was easily fixed. It rides as quiet as it was when i had eibach springs. It can get a little rough on really crappy roads...but all lowered suspension gets stiff on bad roads.

PS..the popping noise caused by gc's when you turn is the top hat rubbing against the top strut mount. At first, i did not have the stock strut bearings installed above the top hat. That caused noise. Once the stock strut bearings where installed above the gc's top hat, no more noise.

haha....what are you talking about man? unlike the Ground Controls, you don't have to buy shocks separatly...in my opinion, Ground Controls are not true and complete coil over system, but rather a height adjustable spring sets. JICs by the way, are the real coilovers. it comes with it's own springs and shocks. you don't need to pay $300 for a set of shocks.

and air suspension you say? how can you compare the ride between JIC coilovers and air suspension? JICs give you arguably one of the best rides out there, while air rides...well...nuff said.

rob van dam: wow...i didn't know you fixed all the problems you've had before. i guess everyone has different experiences with the GCs. i'm glad you've never really had horrible experiences with yours and hopefully you never will.

yeah man. I was determined to fix it. I just can't see myself paying $1800 for suspension. I know JIC are "real" coilovers that come with everything in one, but GC's are the cheaper way out. LOL I'd rather spend $1800 on a fiberglass trunk install. But hey, thats just me

FYI

GC's lose suspension travel, while JIC's retain suspension travel NO MATTER HOW LOW YOU ADJUST THEM.

Plus unless you get Koni strut inserts($500?) or modded 4th gen AGX's($450?) you can NOT adjust dampening/rebound with the GC's.

BTW, you can EASILY get JIC FLT-A2's for $1600-1650ish, hell I'd sell you mine that are still in the box for that right now.

eh, spring rates are measured in pounds, not inches.. unless we're talking about two different things.

Spring rates are not measured in inches. You can do two things to get lower ride:

1.) Cut your springs.
2.) Buy Tein springs.

Definitely go with the JIC's.. You won't regret it!!!

Plus you can drop it lower with the Jic's then you can with the GC's..

i think the GC's are ok. i have them and dont really have any complaints. I would recommend the GC's if you are looking for more looks than performance.

Yes, Y2KevSE had GC coilovers with custom 6" springs, BUT with stiffer spring rates.

If you go with shorter springs you MUST increase the spring rate to compensate, which will make the ride even harsher.

FYI, but all the "big dogs" that were rolling GC's are now rolling JIC's. That MIGHT tell you something about GC's. BTW, none race, so it's not the camber/caster adjustment. Most had camber plates anyways, so I guess that doesn't matter.

I have GC's and its not that harsh... but $350 compared to 1800? I'm a poor individual, sure if I had $1800 to spend some springs, but I don't. There a descent replacement for the time being.

If I was going to spend 1500+ dollars on my suspension, you better believe it's a multi-way air-ride kit, with adjustable on the fly ride hight, and bolt on installation.

i hafta admit, jic's are seriously not the best coil over systems out there, however it is so far the best for the maxima. personally i still favor oil filled shock/struts because of its consistancy however, they cost alot more and are available for our cars. i still think that if you're going to drop your car, get the best set of whatever the first time, because for those that started out with the regular lowering spring and aftermarket low charged struts that then went to the gc coil overs have ended up spending the same amount if not more than what we have spent on our jic's (brand new). so might as well save up and get the best that's out there for us the first time right?

you have a good point. I only went from eibach to ground control because i wanted to be lower. I ended up with ground control because i traded my eibach springs for them(basically they were free). So it was a deal i couldnt pass up....the gc's are alright..

But since I don't have that kinda money for suspension I'll stick with my stock setup until something breaks or I have the money to blow on some new springs/struts. I've heard the AGX's are good unless you live in climate that gets really cold (they stiffen up because they are gas and not oil) I think I'd actually rather go with the JIC's, more money but happier in the long run, and I know I'd never have any problems with them.
