Tomorrow I plan on making red clear tails on my 97, so if ya dont own a heat gun, I have heard you can just put them(tail light housing) in the oven and let them heat up in there till the glue warms up. So before I go melting plastic what temperature seemed to work the best?

Also if anyone has a template for installing CAI it would be appreciated. None was included with the bomz unit. Thanks

 

200 degrees for 8-10 minutes. then you have to heat them back up to put them back together

 

225 10 - 15 min. Dont rush it,you'll only crack them. Go nice and slow.

Yes Betty, preheat it so it bakes evenly.

 

Should the taillights be placed on tinfoil or a baking sheet? Something to prevent the edges from coming in direct contact with the oven rack perhaps?

 

I put them on a towel, on a baking sheet. If they don't come apart easily, they're probably not done yet. Put them back in for a few more.

correct. change steps 7 and 8 to say "bake in preheated oven at 225 for 10 or 15 minutes, or until glue is soft and pliable"

Important step... You have to wear ***gy flowery oven mits and describe the process to anyone who passes, pretending like you are Emeril or something...

how long does it take for the glue to harden again once you put the clear lense in???????

 

the glue starts to harden back immediately after taking it out of the oven. i took it out, took it apart then put the light back in the oven to keep it warm while i fit the clear piece into the outer cover. after fitting it in, i removed the light from oven and reassembled.


edit.... i removed the little red reflector before i put the light back into the oven for the second time

 

May be you should just get a heat gun from Home Depot and Use it for this matter. when done just return it. say you hired contractor to do the job in your house. I recommend to pakage everthing very good. if they give you hard time just say you tryed to do it but it was not working out. That's what I will be doing when i do mine.

 

with a heat gun its very easy to scorch the light
