CD play CDR'S?

Hey all,

I have a 2k1 stock stereo, and did a CRD the other day, and just get a CD ERR when I try to play it. Has anyone found a program that works? or is the stock head unit just not able to read them?

P.S. installed UR UDP yesterday, love it!

Re: CD play CDR'S?

The reason why you probably got that err message was because the CDR was recorded at a speed above 8x. Once the CDR is recorded below 8x you should not get that message.

Weren't previous discussions mentioning possible problems with 'long play' CDR's?

Re: CD play CDR'S?

Yes it will work fine at 40X. But based on the brand of CDR used it is safest to record at 8X or slower. That is why it might work in certain units at home/computer etc. but not in the car.

mine are burned on long-play CDRs at higher than 8x (either 12x or 48x depending on where I am).

most likely you closed the session but left the CD open. You have to end the session AND close the CD when it's done recording.

Or maybe you just had one bad burn... did you just have the one problem or have you tried more than one??

The cd speed has nothing to do with the ERR message. It will only affect very old cd players (1989,90,91). Is the cd very scratched? Sometimes if you have the a/c blowing very very hard, it would cause that on the 00-01 models. Don't know why. Just try a different cd.

Re: CD play CDR'S?

I've had problems before with CD-R discs, especially if the recording surface was really light in color. So here is what works for me:

1) 650MB CD-Rs.
2) Darker dye recording surface.
3) Burn the discs at slower speeds - I always use 4x to be safe.

yeah it porbably could be that ud idn't close the session... if u dont do that.. when u put the cdr in ur cd player.. it's not gonna kno how many tracks are on the cd, and throw and error..... if u didn't closet he session the first time..u have to burn it all over again

I use 80 min TDK cdr's at 40x and have no problems as long as I close the disk and session. All my CDs got jacked out of my car, so now 98% of my CDs are burned and they all work fine.

The Quality of the source can be a problem too. I've done some mix CDs and had some tracks not play well and skip and the rest be fine. But the only time I've got the ERR msg is when I put the disk in upsidedown.

Just for everyones info, the CD's that use blue dye on the recording surface are much better than the greenish ones. I think the dye is called blue agate.

Well since we're talking about cd's now, I suggest you guys go to ebay and bid on some "Diamond Cd-R" it is very high quality and it excedes regular cd-r quality. I've been using them for 3 years now. 1, they look like the cd-s you buy from an album and 2, they're very very high quality.

I dont have problem playing CDR in my stock bose if burnt at highspeed like 16x, but I do have 'CD ERR' message if I burn CDRW at speed greater then 2X.

Thanks everyone, now I have something to try. I burned them at 16X, not sure if I "Closed the session" Will try again. They do work in my portable though. What programs are the most popular? I have nero 5.0 and the one that came with the drive. I used the one with the drive, not Nero for this one.

ezcd creator 4.0 and 5.0 ... and it would work in a portable if the CD wasn't closed but it wouldn't work in your car. That's what the problem was... trust me

cd-rws do not work all the time. They have different reflectivity (wow, $0.10 word there, huh?) and car players have a hard time reading them.

ez-cd creator, it's an option when you go to burn... "1. close session, leave disc open", "2. close session, close disc", "3. disc at once" ... for playing in my portable I choose 1, for my car I have to choose 2 or it won't play.

I am using Memorex CDRW. Works well if I burn @ 2x only. Anything higher = CD ERR or takes forever to play a track. CDRW @ 2x works like regular CD or CDR.

OR... I have Canadian version of BOSE and it ROCKS!!!
