VERY rough idle upon start up???

My idel has been very rough and when driving it sounds very rich. When I come to a light and stop the car feels as if it is going to die.

Is the because of the 1 step colder plugs?

It does not happen all the time.. sometimes in the morning and sometimes in the afternoon.

Sometimes it goes away and sometimes it does not.. ( 30 minute trips )

I am just trying to understand better thanks

How does your vacuum gauge/boost gauge look? If it is jumping around, you might want to check compression or some type of air leak. We have seen some issues with rubber gasket on the intake manifold blowing.

When you saying jumping... do you mean like a little 2-3 or big like 5-6?

I have not seen it moving when at idle. It does move a little every now and again from one start up to the next.

For example today it might be 18 and tommorrow it might be 20 on the vaccum side.

And I did a compression test and got 160-165 on all 6 cylinders..

but I will check the manifold anyway thanks

Your vacuum seems to be ok. Make sure that you RECHECK all your vacuum fittings for leaks, and also check those cheap hoses that they used. And one more thing, you have a mechanical boost gauge right? If so, check the fittings behind the actual gauge as well.

And since you have done the MEVI, make sure you do check the gasket underneath the manifold for leaks. That was a good idea by Nigel. To check it, I would start the car and let it warm up. Mix up a solution of Joy and water in a bucket so that it has a ton of bubbles. Then, drip some of the bubbles on the manifold near the gasket and see if you see any bubbles "making", meaning, if you see any bubbles bubbling alot.....

that's a good one Erik...I would like to do that test too, except I don't have gauges nor MEVI.

throttle body cleaning??? I did that and it made difference.

It's not the plugs - a lot of people, me included, have changed to one step colder without any idling problems, although I do have a very slightly uneven idle.

I'm voting with the people who say to clean the throttle body. If your pvc valve is going bad it will cause idling problems, too.

Yup, PCV can also be an issue also. As for putting water on the intake ... hmm not sure about that one, you should have vacuum at idle so make sure it's not a lot of water ... hydrolock would suck! ... I don't think you can get that much in there anyway

Definitely not plugs, I agree with that, I have run everything from stock to 2 step and there is no difference in idle.
