Question for all 2K2-2K3 owners w/intake...

How many of you have had the MAF failure due to intake? If so, how long did it take(How many miles?) for your MAF to blow after intake install and how did you handle it(Did Nissan replace the MAF free of charge?).

I'm getting very tired of the GS and am considering a few manual tranny cars as replacement and one of my options happens to be a 2K2-2K3 Loaded 6 Speed. Only things stopping me so far are headlight theft in NYC, which I think in my situation, I'd be able to handle. As well as the MAF failure, which is upsetting, because I had an intake on my 98 SE 5 Speed and it was basically one of my favorite mods.

I went from a K&N panel filter to a Frankencar to an Injen and now to a JWT intake and still have the original MAF sensor.

No one has had problems with the newest MAF. There was a thread on the org that listed all of the bad MAF's part numbers and the replacement was a newer model.

And how many miles are on your Max as of now?

Here's a quick breakdown of the part numbers and their respective qualities:

22680-6N200 = Bad
22680-6N201 = Bad
22680-AM600 = Good (Also includes an ECU update if dealer performs "Hesistation" or "Lack Of Power" TSB)

TSB's are available on my homepage.

Just curious, why are you getting tired of the GS?

Excuse my ignorance on the subject, but how can I tell which part# maf I have? Would I have to remove anything?

I cant say anything about exterior styling and the interior fit and finish is also top notch, straight line performance tends to be neck snapping. However, as a whole, the car is just basically very clumsy and doesnt hold the road like I would expect a car that once stickered at $55K. Its not just handling, its just the overall package. My 4 year history with my 2 Maximas was worry free, I've had more BS with this car in 6 months than I could ever imagine, very minor things but when you are as spoiled as I was coming off two Maximas(That I owned at the same time), you cant help but be annoyed.

I really miss a manual tranny and I think I've seen the light. So I will eventually aim for a 2K2 SE 6 Speed with every factory option as well as Navi/or without. Pocket like a $6K difference and have some fun. I want black leather interior, unless its Glacier Pearl, then I wont be able to resist.

You do NOT have to remove anything. Part # is on the Radiator side of the MAF TUBE. I placed a small mirror down the front side of tube and then you can see it (yellow numbers and letters I think).

I've got a 2k2 SE that I bought in May of 02. It has a build date of 01/02. It came with MAF#22680-AM600. I installed a Stillen Pop charger with under 100 miles on the car, I now have 10.9K. No problems, and I've lightly oiled the filter twice.
Also I had a Frankencar mid pipe for 8 months and I now have a Frim Fabrications mid pipe installed with a MAF adapter from AutoZone so I could keep the Pop charger.

Just keep in mind, if you're looking to get an 02/03, be forewarned that the "clumsiness" in the handling dept carries over with you. You'll notice alot of members here upgrading their springs and shocks and getting bolt-on's like the FSTB and RSB.

I've never owned a Lexus so i can't speak on their quality, but I am pretty surprised that you had issues with the car. I was always under the impression that they're quality and service was top notch.
Back on OT here, get an 03 and you'll probably have less MAF problems.
