Is it possible that the security system has something to do with me having trouble starting the car? It seems I can set it (security button comes on solid without blinking). But when I tried to set the alarm off by opening the door the alarm did not go off. Is there another test I can conduct to be sure that's not it? I'm still leaning towards starter although I was able to start the car yesterday (after some initial trouble). Wouldn't a starter problem be noticeable over a longer period of time?
