I think the VI looks great. different strokes I guess. I can not remember right off what the SHO engine looks like but, what matters it that I can kick their butts all day long

I really think the SHO engine is a better engine than our VQs. At least all out performance wise. I think my engine is pretty weird looking with the VI and no cover. Hehe.

man if that intake manifold was completely polished to a mirror finish it would be bad asssssssssssss. You are right the VI with no cover looks goofy.

Probably not. It's a OEM part designed for the VQ. Plus, the VE doesn't need it. The VI is required to give the VQ high end power. As I understand it.. the VE has high end power already.

I don't think so. I know Yamaha made a small V8 that went into some sort of special edition Taurus. But there were only a couple made.

The engines for both generations of SHO were from Yamaha.

The V6's were Yamaha motors. About the only decent thing in that whole car. A couple of my friends are big into SHO's, and even they admit that the motor is great, but the rest of the car is kind of cheap.

Gee, just like our Maximas.

The v6 (gen1 & 2 Taurus SHO) and v8 (limited years gen3) are yamaha motors. They are totlly different to the 2v pushrod ford Vulcan (3.0) and Essex (3.8) V6's that the other tauruses had. Only the gen3 Duratec engine is close to the Yammamotor for performance. The duratec replaced the 3.8 for gen3 (96-99) and we kept for 2000+ (gen4)

They uprated the power in the 3.0 for the 99+ ranger using a refined intake manifold which took it from 140 to 160hp but didn't use that mod in the Taurus. Also, they made the 3.8 a new SPI (split port induction) manifold similar to the SHO yammamotor) that they used in the Windstar, but again kept that out of the Taurus. There was talk at one point of using the windstar SPI manifold or 99+ ranger vulcan manifold on a Taurus fromthe enthusiast community, but I never heard of anyone actually doing it.

The V8 SHO is basically a Duratec V6 with 2 more cylinders and yamaha heads. Yamaha didn't design the whole engine, just the heads. The whole V6 SHO engine is Yamaha.

The VE already has a variable intake manifold, you have no use for an MEVI.

Are you waiting like 10 minutes after you turn the motor off?

If I still had my SHO, I'd race you stock vs. stock and we would see. I've had 2 SHO's and on my 2nd Max now....still miss the powerband of the 3.2 Yamaha.

I was in a 92 automatic SHO once. Totally stock. 4 people in the car. Estimated weight was as follows..

180, 300, 140, 140

Thats about 760lbs. The drive floored it and the speedo and tach just flew and kept pulling. I was SOOO impressed.

I believe 93 is the first year that the automatic was available.

Did you ever shim the valves on your sho? I love that engine. My brother had an SHO. I was considering the SHO before I looked at a maxima. But when I drove the max I knew I was getting the best of both worlds performance and reliability(less Maintenance, no shimming)

I think that engine was for a sports car, but ford scrapped the car and detuned the engine a little and dropped it in a Taurus. I still marvel at that engine though.

I never shimmed my valves. But I definately agree that the SHO has the engine of a sports car and not much else. I went through ALOT of maintenance problems on those cars...but everytime I redlined it, all that money almost felt well spent

I raced a 3.2 SHO. I had 4 people in the car, with only my intake and grippy tires, he had just the driver...I won. But barely SHO's are quite impressive, my best friend has a V8 and we always race, once we hit around 100 MPH he just takes off, it's frustrating.
