New 1997 Max GXE.

Hey everyone, I'm brand new to this forum, I've been browsing around for a few months now, but just recently bought the car. I'm looking to do some quick mods to my car, both performance and "for looks". Just wondering what everyone sugjests....bearing in mind I have a limited budget...in fact mods AND prices would be great. I'm already looking to putting some reverse glow gauges, a strut tower bar, some sort of intake(looking for input), and definitely lowering with rims(more input on springs needed). I'm looking to boost my low end, but not neglect my high end either(staying away from Turbo, SC, or NOS...too much $$$). But my main question immediately is is there a difference between strut tower bars? or are they all pretty much the same other than looks... Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome
budget y runs something like 170.
DIY red/clear tails are awesome. Get a sheet of Fluorescent cover at Lowe's, Sears or Home Depot. Instructions at:

Intake- www.frankencar.com.... The one I have
No reverse indiglo gauges. Try to get the SE gauges. So much better in my opinion.
FSTB's are pretty much all of the same. The ones on ebay for $14 are just as good as the stillen ones for a couple hundred bucks.

Make your own intake, if not, get a midpipe off ebay, thats your best bet. I have an Ebay FSTB and it works fine. Also, pick up some Diamond Cut Clear corners, i got mine from custommaxima.com, worth every penny. Definately go the red/clears...

Hit me up on AOL: erick161 and i can hook you up with some more links and such...

Congrats and happy modding

Thanks for the input. Any recommendations on springs? I've read multiple opinions in this forum. I'm looking to lower about 1.5" maybe 2"...I'm mainly concerned with performance, but a nice ride wouldn't be bad in my book either. Now this is probably a stupid question, but I have to ask...when I put the lowering springs on do I also HAVE to replace my stock struts..I plan on replacing them eventually but just don't have the cash flow right now. Thanks!

If you wanna lower your car 2" then you'll definatly need to replace your struts/shocks, otherwise your handling will go straight to hell, ie. you'll bounce right off the road. You'd prolly be best off just geting a midpipe + K&N cone filter off ebay, frankencar is good but seems to be pretty backed up on orders. A budget Y-pipe is easily the best price/performance mod you can do, I'd personally get that before the intake.

welcome...as for springs...eibachs would prolly be the best bet for your app...I think the drop is 1.2-1.5, I'm considering those also...other stuff has pretty much been covered. happy modding

does anyone have a pic of their max lowered with eibachs? I'm just not sure if 1.5f and 1.3r are low enough for that aggresive stance...but I could be wrong. How about the cheapest place to buy a quality y-pipe. Thanks!
