CHeck Engine Light - Nissan cheats...

So less than 500 miles ago I took my car in for 30,000 mile service. The service record I got back fro the dealership (Turner Nissan in Sacramento) stated that they checked all my systems including exhaust, ignition, emissions, etc. etc. etc.

So then my "Check Engine Light" goes on, and no... its not from the gas cap not being closed properly. Well, Nissan told me since my car wasn't under warranty they need to charge me $140 to just check to see what was wrong.

Obviously I was not going to pay this after paying for a 30,000 service where everything should have been checked and fixed. Sounded like they lied about fixing everything to me...

So I called Nissan Headquarters where they were able to see I've owned more then 8 Nissans in my family and thats all we own. Then I had the lady on the phone tell me that even she wouldn't pay that to just have the light checked and reset. She's making a call to these cheats at Turner Nissan, so we'll see how that goes.

It is unbelievable how greedy some dealerships are and how crappy they treat their good customers. Guess its time to find another mechanic.

damn, thats insane that they tried to scam you like that...the greed of some people...

you definetly did the right thing by telling them to shove the $140 up their ***....

sucks to see that a Nissan dealer would treat a Nissan customer that way...hopefully you will find a shop that will be fair...good luck

Yeah. Well, $140 is ridiculous to check an engine light at ANY time, but right after I paid and had my car serviced.. unacceptable. I will be writing letters to both that dealership and Nissan USA regarding this and letting them know that they've lost an entire family of Nissan drivers future payments for any type of service because of the way I was treated.

That's exactly why I don't do their interval based checkups to begin with...Spending over $300 to have them look at warranty covered parts??? Um, no thanks. Greedy bastards. How is your car not under warranty at 30,000 miles? Are you beyond 3 years or something?

$0 at autozone (check autozone.com for store locations)
they offer free diagnostics.
Good luck.

Well, AutoZone (at least the ones where I am) no longer do the diagnostic for the "Service Engine Soon" light anymore. At least not for free, but still cheaper than the dealer.

Yes, I agree that dealerships are there to make money, but less than 500 miles AFTER a major service which I paid for, I should not have to again pay them $140 more dollars to find out what is now wrong with the car, if anything. If I get service done on my car, and they say everything was working - it should still be working 500 miles later.

Just means someone is lying...

I'll let you know how it all gets resolved when Nissan Consumer Affairs calls me back.

What kind did you get? Are you connecting it to a PDA? I'm looking for something that will connect to a PocketPC.
