I would also like to know more about the Apex intakes.

I have searched around for them but it doesnt seem like they are made for the maxima, but i dont really know. Frankencar gets them but i believe an adapter is involved.

Are there any other japanese companies that make intakes that would work on the max ?

any pictures of apex intakes on anyones max or any reviews or opinions...?

I went from a traditional cone filter to an apexi and could notice smoother acceleration and reduced noise from the HAI set-up. The important thing I believe is to use a filter with some sort of built in "velocity stack", like the JWT, Stillen or apexi uses. Air turbulance is reduced with these, and acceleration is much more linear. I am not going to claim any HP increase because I did not dyno the fliters, but I feel that I gained a little bit of power.

The biggest difference is that the Apexi is a dry filter and does not need to be oiled.

I bought Apexi filter from Berk Tuning, but I don't know if they're still around or not. It came with an aluminum bracket, 2 clamps and a blue piece of rubber tubing (see below pics). The bracket screws into the filter. The tubing then slides over the CAI tubing on one end and the bracket on the other end. It's held together by the clamps that you see in the pics. Hope this helps.
The setup has been doing great so far. I clean it gently with a soft brush every so often. I bought it just so I wouldn't have to take a chance with an oily filter messing up my MAF.

Jesus! HKS does the worst in the test! Could this be acutally damaging my engine? Shaving off miles from my engine's potential! Quick! I better get a Frankencar w/Apex-i, huh?

Pretty much all quality highflow filters are the same. I've got a link on my home computer showing the HKS intake making better power than the Apexi and all others. It just depends on who you talk to. Yes, the HKS foam will not filter as well, but that test on the Supra site is unrealistic.

Like others have said, the Apexi's advantage is that it's doesn't need oiling.

I recently put on a Franken midpipe w a Apex filter. The only thing that bugs me is the MAF needs to be attached to the filter by two adapters and a rubber connector. Right now my filter is crudely stuffed into my engine bay As soon as I get time I'm gonna shorten the connector and play around with the whole setup. As for performance difference, I wouldn't know because this is the first aftermarket filter I got. I wouldn't expect too much of a difference anyway.
