when we were trying to take the rear strut off to put the new springs on my friends maxima, we somehow stipped the bolt.. so now it wont come off and his car is slammed on 3 tires with the other stock.. other than having the bolt cut off, is there any other way to fix this...

Do you have a set of Metrinch tools? That same thing happened to me and I used those tools to take it off. Thats the only way without drilling it out or cutting it off that I could think of.

Which bolt did you strip? Did you actually strip the threads or did you round off the flats on the head of the bolt? Metrenchs will get rounded heads off (sometimes) but won't do anything for stripped threads.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's funny.....That happened to me too. The bolt on the bottom of the strut freaken striped. The way i did it was I push the strut down where it pops out the strut by stepping down on the tire. Then slide the spring in without taking the strut off.It takes some time do it though but it can be done.GOOD LUCK!!!!

I would try a couple of things. You may be able to dress up the head of the bolt with a file enough to get another size socket on it. Usually SAE sizes (inches) are in between metric, so I would try one of those. Use a 6-point socket, NOT a 12-point. The 6-point will grab more of the flats.

If that doesn't work, try a large set of vice-grip pliers. Make sure that they are very tight, or you will screw up the head more than it already is.

If it is a nut that is rounded off, you could use a nut splitter and just cut it off.

The last resort is a blue-tipped speed wrench (oxy-acetylene torch).

I30CeFiRo!

Nice I30, what are the offset of your wheels, did you need to modify your wheel arches to fit those rims? I got 18x8.5 on my 96 GLE and thought that was big. I was shoked when I saw your 20's. Very nice!

MUHAHAHAHAH!!!

Same thing happened to me about 2 weeks ago. My back left strut boult{17mm} got stripped real bad. I tried just about everything that I could think of and what people suggested to me and finally I came up with a solution. What I did was get a pipe wrench, the bueaty of pipe wrench is that when you twist it up when trying to loosen the bolt it will get tighter and tighter with the more force you put on it.Anyways before I used the pipe wrench I dumped a ton of oil on the bolt and then got out a blow tourch and heated it up real good. The blow torch brakes up the lock tight crap and makes the bolt able to move. Once I prepped it I just used the pipe wrench and it came off pretty easly. Good Luck
