over heated??????

ok today i went from nj to long island to check out this car with my friend. and on the way there my car over heated. yes i was in bumper to bumper traffic so i pulled over pop my hood and my coolant was boiling. Now i just wanted to know is this ok for my car to do this. its a 1989 max(vg motor). For the rest of the trip it was fine. this never happen to me before either. I was thinking maybe i had to much coolant in there from before cause i had to replce the top raditor hose. But im not to sure if this ok or a bad sign

Ok to do what, overheat?

And dear god I hope you didn't open the radiator cap while the engine was hot. Isn't that sh*t pressurized?

If you have too much coolant it will go in the overflow tank on the left side of the engine compartment. Just make sure that it's not over the maximum mark.

Other then that I don't know what to tell ya

was the overflow tank filled to the top?
if yes then your not overheating, the coolant expanded and it pushed out of the tank...(somehow i doubt u did that).

was the temp gauge at H or very close to it?

were the fan running when you got out and checked?

something tells me that your coolant temp sensor is bad or bad connection at the coolant temp sensor.
