Insurance Rates

I'm in the process of buying a 95 SC max right now. I'm 16 and I don't have my license yet. I should be getting the car within a week, and I will be getting my license within a month. The car is SC'd with full body kit, rims, suspension, full exhaust, blah blah blah. And I'm wondering how much the SC will add on to my insurance. I'm kind of worried about it. Also, I'm interested in what you guys think my 1/4 mile times will roughly be around with the mods that the vehicle has. And a rough estimate of bhp/whp. I don't plan on street racing because I think it's foolish, but I will go to track alot. The mods on the car include:

Vortex Supercharger
Race Pipe
Random Tech High Flow Cat. Converter
Greddy SP Exhaust
Torque Converter and Valve Body
Blitz Blow off valve

Thanks alot,
Steve

Re: Insurance Rates

The nice thing about having a Maxima is that the insurance companies think it's a family sedan and rate it cheaper than, say, a Z-28 or Mustang. They don't have to know it has a SC or mods, unless you want that insured, too. In which case you'll probably have to pay.

Well could I insure everything except the supercharger? Because I'm worried if someone hits me or whatever I will want some money for the body kit and whatever else gets damaged.

well, if you have a good ins company they will never ask you about your supercharger or other mods on the car. they just say that you should have reciepts of the stuff on the car. but make sure the person who sells you the car either has the reciepts or lists the mods on the car at purchase time , so that you are covered

No, it's got 102,000 miles and it's never been in an accident or anything.

Seems like a pretty good deal, but I doubt the tranny is in great shape, unless it was rebuilt to handle the extra hp. I would assume the car has around 260 fwhp, but it really depends on what size pulley is installed on the SC. That car is heavily modified, obviously.. just FYI, big mods like a supercharger have a serious impact on reliability.

how can i tell if the tranny is going bad or not? i'm going to try and find a good shop around my area that installs superchargers and knows alot about modified cars to take a look at the car and make sure everything is ok.

Assuming you ave at least a 3.33" Pulley on there and actually are at 260hp, then your times will matter depending on what tranny you have.

5spd or Auto?

5spd - 13.8-14.0 1/4 mile
Auto - 14.7-14.9 1/4 mile

To see if you Auto tranny is OK - just take it for a long freeway drive followed by a city drive. If the tranny ever slips then it's time for a new tranny. (from a stop it revs and nothing happens for a second and then you hear a THUNK and it starts going)

If you have a 5spd, then look for leaks at your axle seals and a whine like you currently hear in Reverse (which is OK) in 1st or 2nd Gears.
