bmw halo question

i am 98% done the bmw headlight conversion with the zkw chrome headlights with halos. my problem is that the gray wire for the halos is supposed to go to the corner light. thing is i want to wire it to a switch. however when i wired it to a switch with a ring connector to the battery it made all four lights turn on when i turned on the lights and 2 lights were on at all times. i want it wired to a switch because cops harrass about colors of lights here and i dont need another ticket. any suggestions as to how to wire it would be appreicated. i will post pics as soon as i have the halos wired properly.

did you end up trying a new switch? have you tried wiring the grey wire to the corners to make sure they light up properly that way?

yea it was alot of cutting altho most of rad support is there just had to bang it in for a more snug fit. u can't use the stock brackets because i think they are just too small. And chris has seen it because he drove by after i fitted the lights and was doing the wiring. i will post pics after i get the halo's working. other than that they look great and are an improvement over stock.

So, is this grey wire the trigger (12v) wire, or the ground wire? Because it sounds like you don't have something wired up right, in that regard.

On my halos, there are only two wires per halo - 12v and ground. And taking the ground wire and "grounding" it to the chassis and tapping into the 12v switched signal from my parking lights (or fog lights, in this case) seemed to work for me. It seems like it might be a bit sloppy, with 8 small wires coming out of each headlight housing, but

I cleaned it up by consolidating all the 12v wires on each side along with all the ground wires. End result had one 12ga "hot" wire and one 12ga ground per side. Which made wire routing a snap from that point.

Now, all of this might not apply to you, since you have the ZKW chrome lights and I've got the US-spec, "modified" lights, but maybe it'll give food for thought on how to solve YOUR light issue.

Good luck, and can't wait to see the pics.

Its a wierd setup nothing that i have seen before. there are four wires going into the headlight a brown wire for the ground, one for high beams, one for low beams, and one for the halos. then coming out of the light is one gray wire for the halos. Do you think that because the grey wire was wired to a switch and then straight to the battery that it might have caused it to turn on all the lights and have the symptom i stated above? If I wired it to the corner lights would it still be possible to wire it to a switch so I could turn it on and off at will ie to avoid harassment from the police for "improper color of lights". as for pics of the way it is now i have posted it on a nother thread on this forum altho if u want here is the link.

I'll have more pics with the lights on once i get those pesky halos up and running.
