They tried to sell me the farm

I finally went to a Nissan dealership to repair my service engine soon light. I previously went to Autozone to find out that the cat. efficiency was low. The group had informed me that all I needed was to have my ecu reprogrammed. I went armed with my info from the forum, Autozone and my warranty book. They tried to sell services totaling over $700. That included the reprogram, 30k service and some other stuff that was due. It was also made known to me that my air filter was an aftermarket one and that was taboo. He went on for a few minutes. I felt like crap after hearing all this. I told the dear man that my warranty book says nothing about all of these services. He then told me that the book only shows the bare minimum to keep the car under warranty. Huh? WTF. I told him to just reprogram the ecu. I drove away $174 lighter but with the feeling I've sinned on my beloved Max.

Give your max reasonable care, good maintenance, and don't flog it at the track every day, and you will see 175-200,000 miles - without replacing major components.

All dealers try to get you to pay for their services - most of which are "check this" or "check that" all a bunch of baloney.

Reprogramming the ECU for engine light, that's under warranty, right?????

What is your mileage? If it is under 36,000, I would have told them to eat a d!ck and fix it for free or I would rape them on their survey and report them to Nissan North America.

You shouldn't have had to pay for it and I would raise holy hell to get your money back.

40K and no major problems. Just basic oil changes every 3K miles and RedLine tranny fluid at 25K.

And you bought an extended warranty? Was it a Nissan warranty? Or an aftermarket warranty?

Thats why he tried to screw you, if it had been free warranty work he wouldn't have even bothered. But he was trying to get money out of your pocket. The shady dealer service techs are the best reason to educate yourself about your car. The more you know, the more you can call them on their BS!

I hate to tell you but...if (if if if) the ECU reflash

was absolutely required to fix an emissions-related issue, per law and EPA regulations, that needs to be free and fully until warranty until the car reaches 80k miles.

The same for MAF failures as well, provided of course you bring the car's intake back to stock before u drive the car to the dealer....

I would call Nissan and ask them to explain why the dealer raped you for 174 clams
