First time ever at the track

Here's the numbers. Injen intake, stock tires. Rear pressure 42 lbs. Front pressure 28 lbs., but only for the third run. I forgot to lower it for thr first 2.

Temp - 83 degrees
Humidity – 60%
Bar. Pressure one hour before racing – 30.02 and falling

Run 1:

R/T .483
60’ 2.426
1/8 9.959
mph 72.9
1/4 15.334
mph 91.352

Run 2:

R/T .478
60’ 2.423
1/8 10.046
mph 72.62
1/4 15.420
mph 90.858

Run 3:

R/T .690 (I was sleepin’)
60” 2.461
1/8 10.080
mph 72.596
1/4 15.402
mph 92.174

I know, 60' times suck....gotta reduce wheel spin. Need to figure out the optimal shift points, too.

Went with MAXimumHP...look for his numbers here and/or the 4th gen forum. Never raced before and dayym, it was fun!!!

Sounds like you had fun. Was it a bit more difficult than you thought? Im heading back for my second time tommorow. Its actually fun to take a tiny bit of experience back with me. (First Time @ dragway last week!)

Anyways, I have had the car in the shop over the past week. Wanted to have the car inspected (had 2 ecu codes) got an oil change and just a check up really. I also had the exhaust system checked and tightened, at the dragway last week i blew a gasket which caused a leak and a bunch of noise.

All in all, I ready to break my all time record at this track, I think I will be able to. I think both you and I will see improvements with practice and working on our launchs. At this point a launch must be a combination of leaving at the right time (2nd yellow light) and finding the correct rpm for your car..

Check this out, I actually put up better times when racing against someone. I told my wife and she said your right and said something about how healthy competition is good!

Anyways, great job! I know the least of the 1/4 mile posters but with your 02 and some practice you should beat your best time.

Do you have plans to go back ?

It was a blast...I went with MAXimumHP, and we raced each other. He'll probably be posting his #'s soon. First time for both of us.

I'll certainly head back to the track. I know I can improve. Gotta get a better launch. I had no wheel hop, but did spin the tires. Funny thing is that from inside the car I couldn't tell exactly how much spin. I couldn't hear it, and I wasn't focused on the tach for the first couple seconds. It wasn't excessive, from what I was told.

There was also a 20+ mph head wind. Does that make a noticable difference?

I'm sure you'll improve on your times when you head back....let us know how it turns out......

It seems like your trap speeds and ET are very low. Are you at higher elevation?

I think you mean the trap is low and the ET is high....??

I wish I could use that as the reason!! Elevation was only about 600 ft.

Yeah, the car is capable of much better.....the driver was the problem!! My first time at the track...no experience. I've driven all kinds of MT's, but not for racing. I was able to shift between gears pretty quick. I just need to work on the launch and the shift points.

Thanks for getting this thread started. Summer Calc III finals has been keeping me busy. Also on the brink of my new 5hp Toy…Actually Michele's. Maybe after beefing that up I can take that to WIR and run the 1/8th.

Anyway Here's my best time:

15.486 @ 89.6
The others are all real close within a tenth

I don't have the slips so I can't remember the exact 60' time, but they were in the 2.4XX range. I thought I had a pretty damn good launch on the last run, but still had a 2.4xx 60' time. Not sure how to get that down more.

My Car is a Fed Spec 99, 5 spd with an intake and 18" Evo 5's (56 lbs w/ tires). By the next track run, I hope to have a y-pipe and pulley and might try my factory 16's and reduce front pressure.

It was fun at the drags, lot more than I thought it was going to be. Kris wants to race me in his 2000 TL once he breaks in his virgin tranny. So I will probably be back at the track soon.
