hey wassup fellows. i caught a speeding ticket on the i 95 in ct. 279.00 si how much the ticket. now the officer said if i paid it before the 4th of next month i wont get any points on my license. is this true?

 

I live in CT and I have never heard of this before. Probably just doesn't want you to contest it. Where on 95 was this?

 

Yeh thats true because the points system is not really important any more, Its three strikes and your out! When I went to court I was explained this!

 

I got caught by exit 39 southbound. He was parked by the exit. He got a clear look at me. So I knew I was caught. He even told me in Conn 86 mph is considered reckless driving. So if I was going an extra 2 mph i would have been lead off in cuffs! So now i got to find the 279 dollars before the 4th of March. In NY i got caught doing 92mph and i had to paid a buck 150 and I got a sixty day suspension. what im wondering is why is the fine so high?

 

Here (MD) if you pay the ticket you're admitting your guilt and you get the points. In Conn. that three strikes thing must rule out the points like JDWyer said.

NY also has the three strikes your out rule. Three speeding tickets in 18 months=90 day suspension.

 

I am suprised you did not get a warning, I was caught doing 90+ in the fog three times by the same trooper. The third time he gave me a ticket and said next time it will be reckless driving! I put not guilty and reduced it to $100. I try not to speed know

 

Here's some free advice....stop driving fast so that you can money on your car and not wasting it on speeding tickets. That simple!

 

When my mom took my car to Connecticut for i don't know what reason she got a $250 speeding ticket for 75mph in a 50mph zone and didn't get any points off cause she paid it right away.

 

You don't get points for out of state tickets, at least not in NY. NYS does know about it, but they cannot add points to your license. BTW, the Connecticut State Police now have no marked cars, only the unmarked with the light bars that have STATE POLICE lighted up(very cute) or the unmarked with the dash lights. They started an initative in the middle of last year to slow down traffic between Greenwich and New Haven, and often have more than ten patrols on that ~50mile stretch, not worth it to speed. Oh, and another thing. They have the option od brnging those cars home with them, but if they d, they must sto pof anything on the way home and have to be on call too (I think).

 

last year i was coming back from six flags and cop caught me going 100mph with 4 ppl including me and said do u want me to arrest you or do u want to sign this paper and go to court. so i signed the paper and went to court i had to pay $350.00 and i had my license taken aways for 1 month and 1 year probation. I hate CT state police.

 

NO points are recorded on your license for out of state violations, unless they are alcohol or drug related.
The only exceptions to this are Ontario and Quebec.

Albertt, everyone has done it at one time or the other. Speeding is bad, but when compared w/ DWI, driving while tired or driving recklessly, speeding is on the lower level of no-nos. But MADMAN, I have a question. What state do you live in?

 

Well I live in NY but my car is register in Conn. I switch my license too.Im one of a few New Yorkers who refuse to pay 4500 full coverage insurance! I caught a speeding ticket in NY when I had a ny licences. i was doing 90 on the on the staten island expwy. they gave me a 150 fine plus a 60 day suspension. i switch before the suspension took effect.

Watch out on I-95 between Old Saybrook and New London, I live in Old Saybrook and read in the local paper that the state is spending over a million dollars for ten state police officer to radar that area plus airplane speed checks(?). A few weeks ago they had the radar machines taken pics of speeders. Has anyone been sent a ticket from the Radar photo machines?

 

 

The good ol' speeding tax is alive and well in CT. I drive 200+ miles/weekday and I usually stick to Route 15 and avoid 95 (the road, not the speed)at almost any cost. I've found that the traps on Rt.15 are more predictable and easier to avoid and that the average speed is much higher than 95.

You can hook up to Route 15 (Merritt Parkway) by taking 287 West off of I95 North and follow the signs to the Merritt. It is one of the most fun roads to drive anywhere if you're into white-knuckle driving. Just be on the lookout for the 5-0 in the Greenwich area.

The Merritt parallels 95 until the Sikorsky Bridge in Milford. Then it runs more northerly until it crosses I91 outside of Meriden. It's a nice way to avoid 95 if you're going up to Boston or the Vermont ski areas during heavy traffic times.

Just use common sense about your speed and use a detecto and you'll be ok. Most of the traffic on the Merritt is already doing 75-80 anyway.

 

Its easier to get Merritt by taking the Hutch to its end at the NY-CT state line. The Merritt is the Hutch in CT. 95 in Westchester has a toll.

31 mph over is really pushing the envelope. Thats 31 more than those DOING the limit, and MORE if they're under. Come up on a 'grey-hair' doing 45 when you're doing *86* and let me know how you do!!!

Common sense dictates to *me* that 10-20 over is *ok* and not really all that *safe*, but if you think you can safely drive at 31 over, I have a bridge I wanna sell ya!

I agree, at least in theory. The problem with your comment is that you assume that most people do the limit. This has been disproven in many different studies. Last year the NYSP had a press release that stated that the average speeding ticket went from about 72 to approximately 81 MPH on the NYS Thruway, with a DECREASE in the number of accidents over the same period. Speeding is dangerous, but so is driving in general. MOST people drive with some regard for what the rest of traffic is doing. If the rest of traffic is doing 75, then 75 is acceptable, even if the speed limit is 65. However, you know as well as I do that there are many, many places where traffic is going SIGNIFICANTLY faster than the posted speed limit. Locally I can think of 3 places where going the speed limit would be dangerous, 1. the Sprain Brook Parkway from Tuckahoe Road in Yonkers north to the Taconic, 2.)the ENTIRE stretch of I-684 and 3.)the 3-4 miles of I-95 on both sides of the NY-CT line. The police understand that the speed limits are set lower than the ideal speed for the road, and as such, allow for the higher speeds that a person is doing(my two family members that are State Troopers, one that is a County Police officer and one that works for Highway 1 in the city back this up). I, however wouldn't attempt this on a city street or on a highway that is horribly designed, like the entire length of the FDR in NYC. Look at the big picture. As long as what you are doing is reasonable, there SHOULDN'T be too much of a problem. However, with the left lane hogs (can anyone explain there mentality?), people that weave in and out of traffic and refuse to yeild to emergency vehicles, this always isn't possible. I'm just saying do it where it is right. And if you don't feel comfortable doing it, go the speed limit, BUT IN THE RIGHT LANE. The middle lane is not the right lane for this.
