Electrical Help Please!

my parking lights and dash lights went out a few nights back. i think the relay that flips everything on when you turn on your parking lights went out but i dont know where that relay is. i have headlights and turn signals and brake lights, but its like driving without your parking lights. im thinking the switch is good since the headlights turn on and everything else works.

if anyone has the electrical diagram, i would appreciate it if you would tell me where that relay is so i can check it out.

if you have any other thoughts as to what might be wrong, please let me know.

thanx everyone

I have to agree with shavedmax that your problem is a fuse.

all the fuses under the steering wheel are fine and the two boxes in the engine bay, those things in there are fine too...is that how the parking lights work, off a relay?

thanx for the advice guys. i guess i can go back and double check.

relay sounds possible, but i dont remember hearing any clkicking noise when i turn the lights on. if you can check the fuses with a test light(dunno if you did that) to see if you're getting power to the fuse. if not then its either a relay or wire, just trace it back and somehow rig it to work i guess. good luck

Did you check the fusible links in the engine compartment??? There are two regular fuses and 5 or 6 links.
I don't see any relay for the dash lights.
Also check the grounds for rusted terminals.

Fuse?

My 94 FSM shows fuse number 6 from top left powers the dash illumination and also the side marker lights (parking?). If it is not a fuse then I would have to say that the lighting switch is bad as I don't see any relay in the circuit.

Re: Electrical Help Please!

DO the dash lights and parking lights come on when u press the break pedal?? my previous maxima had the same problem but with the exception that the lights would come on while the break pedal was pressed ...never figured it out since it went away by itself.

You had a bad ground some place. The voltage was going back through the system looking for a ground when you pressed the brake.
I've noticed that some tail light bulb were melting the housing and the ground wire would lose contact with ground.

Dude - sounds like you put a stop/tail bulb in the wrong way! Could have a worn fitting unless you forced it in... If you had a bad earth, the problem wouldn't have gone away - you probably blew the bulb when you put the park lights on.
