Please help with brakes!! Car on lift...

Guys,

I brought my car in to have the axxis metal master pads installed. It's on the lift now. They are telling me that the front pads won't fit because I need to have wear indicators on both sides. What are they talking about? How did everyone else get these to fit?

Thanks

It is not a question of fitment. It is a question of safety. I changed the front pads on my 02 to Axxis MM's. I did notice that both the inner and outer OEM (Nissan) pads had wear indicators (a metal bar that scrapes against the rotor when the pads have warn down and need to be changed) whereas the Axxis only had them on the outer pads. This was the first time I've seen this as my 89 SE had only the wear indictators on the outer pads. Personally I don't believe its necessary to have both sides but obviously Nissan did. It didn't stop me from installing the Axxis pads. The risk here is that the inner pad wears faster than the outer and it just means you have to be more diligent about inspecting your brake pads. Hope this helps.

The tech said because only the outer pads had wear indicators "the front pads will not clip onto the pad return spring on the inside". He said the risk is that they may rattle around or rub against the rotor and will wear out prematurely. I've been driving with them and they feel ok, but it's hard to tell if they're working properly. Any advice you guys have would really help.

It's easy to see the pads on these cars even with the rims on. I wouldn't worry about it.

Matt, thanks for the PM.
After one long argument about fitments issues w/ porterfield. I did the most simple thing after I cut up the clips.

I got a 4th gen 95-98 Brake Hardware kit from Nissan. Clips for the brackets, return springs that attach to the top of each pad, and shims.
Problem solved. However I do have a bolt-on 300ZX brake kit shaved rotor and all F/S. Not officially, but will be soon. I just bought a used AP 4 piston kit from a guy parting out his 2k1.
