"guaranteed to pass emissions" fuel treatment worked

i went back to my dmv today to try to pass inspection which i previously failed. before i went and shelled out hard cash for a new high flow catalyst i put the CRC brand fuel treatment in my tank and drove until empty. i refilled and brought the car in. result: barely passed! but i passed. my advice to anyone trying to pass with a ypipe in NJ is to use the fuel treatment and make sure the cat is very warm. don't shut the car off while sitting in line. i actually revved up to 2k periodically, especially before my turn. something good to try, is to run with a lower octane gas. maybe next time it won't be so hard. hope this helps.

Good luck with that! I'm sticking with turboing my KA24DE instead of going through the SR20 swap.

might as well try to find a clip. it costs about the same as a turbokit and you still have to build the internals if you want to push a decent amount of power. by the way, are you interested in buying an apexi SAFC or AVC-R boost control?

I recently went for inspection in NY with Budget Y-pipe, stock cat and stock cat back.
Allowed: HC 0.60 CO 10.00 NOx 1.50
My results : HC 0.44 CO 2.71 NOx 1.23

Why are my HC and NOx so high?

Why not just go with an RB. It's been done.

I wish I still had my S-13. My GF's spec-v is fun to drive though. She loves dumping money into it.

My KA is already running 8.0:1 custom forged light weight pistons and fully forged internals (along with block strengthening, built tranny, etc...). Might as well keep the extra .4L displacement Besides, it's not a daily driver, it's a race car (or will be) that just happens to be street legal.

I just FAILED in California

I have a Stillen Y-pipe, Stillen B-pipe, 5th gen muffler, stock cat, intake with midpipe, and 67K miles on my 97. The place my sister took it to didn't like the intake and marked modified on the sheet. Testing was as follows:
15 MPH @ 1,506 RPM
HC: CO: NO:
MAX: 55 MAX: .50 MAX: 437
AVE: 9 AVE: .02 AVE: 57
MEAS: 199 MEAS: .49 MEAS: 1732

25 MPH @ 2,414 RPM
HC: CO: NO:
MAX: 39 MAX: .48 MAX: 724
AVE: 7 AVE: .03 AVE: 50
MEAS: 22 MEAS: .02 MEAS: 874

As you can see, I failed half the tests, mainlyin the 15 MPH and NO testing. The place my sister took it to was 3 miles/10 minutes away from my home. The car was not driven for 2 days. What should I do? I told my sister to make sure the car was warm, but I'm not sure if she understood me.

My options:
1) reinstall the stock intake (visual and possibly some emission purposes)
2) reinstall stock Y-pipe. (I'd really rather not do this...more work)
3) try some of the "pass emission" treatment.
4) take it somewhere else.

Add the engine treatment stuff and drive the **** out of it before you take it in to be tested. Oh, and this goes without saying, but take it to another place.
