How does the 2002 Sentra pull off 180 hp/180tq?
How does Nissan do this? Is the Spec V the same as VTEC only a little more advanced? What will the redline be at in this car? I'm interested! If possible, can anyone give me some hypothetical stats for this car including weight? Thanks
I doubt they will have anything like VTEC, we would have heard about it by now, I think they took a page from Honda's book on making high hp to liter ratio, and also keep doing the same thing they have always done, make engines with gobbs of torque. That car will be a screamer. Hopefully they get a large aftermarket following.
What are you guys talking about?
Coolmax? A dog....I think not. Nissan has relesed "low 7's" BUT....it WILL be much much quicker. A current b15 145hp/136ft-lb se 5sp will run a little under 8 to 60. Add 35hp and 45ft-lbs and I GUARANTEE it will run under 7 to 60! The car itself will NOT get heavier. SURE its a 2.5L replacing a 2.0...BUT the 2.0 is an iron block where the 2.5 is an all aluminum engine. The body kit weight is minimal. Also it will have a torsen LSD....BETTER than VSLD....so this car will sling shot off the line.
About the engine. It has nissan continously variable valve timing..but NOT lift. Most high end cars(porshe/bmw) use a continous system(albeit with lift) rather than hondas on/off style. True...the 2.5rs is at 165hp but that engine sounds like junk....and you know I'm right. This new nissan QR25DE is basically a "mini-vq" and should be every bit as smooth.

Fine...
I have read that it is a "mini-VQ" and should have according performance. We'll just have to wait and see what the mags do...and with all those goodies, the SE-R had better do better than a GT-S or Si. In that case I'll return to the Nissan family...or get that '99 Maxima SE-L.

Hmm....they didn't do a 0-60run....just used nissan's guesstimate. Sounds plenty quick. Should be faster than an si. Probably as fast as a type r/gt-s....but no faster. Current se's can keep up with the si's until 60...then they pull and pull

easy huh?
If this is so easy to pull off with a 2.5L engine, why haven't we seen this from other car companies in the first place? why would they hold out from the customers? It seems that lots of people are drooling over this new car. Why wouldn't Nissan bring this easy to make car out earlier to raise more money for themselves. I hate to hear that Nissan loses 3 billion dollars over a six month period because they were wolding out on their technology. I am guessing that if they brought this car earlier, my 2000 Maxima might be built better without the creaking sounds in the cabin. This strategy, to me , sounds like Rickey Henderson running at 3/4 speed when stealing a base instead of going all out. Doesn't make sense to me.
Well in Nissan's case it was money. They WERE in debt(probably still to some degree) but are well on their way back to the top. They HAD a se-r from 91-94....140hp...really light....car ran low 7's for like 13-14K. But they droped it for 95 which brought a horid bad 95sentra.
Other car makers are doing it. 150hp "tuner" 323. Just realeased today 170hp focus svt, the se-r, etc. See....automakers....GM esp. have been too busy playing with suv's and forgeting the little buyers. Also don't forget the hugely popular civic si....for whatever reason was drop for 2000 or this year. I'm sure it will come back tho.
Last note....the se sentra with 145hp is no slouch. Its capable of 16 flat in 1/4 which most "economy" sedans don't do. The were holding off a year on the se-r cuz its getting an all new engine. The QR25 is/was developed as the base altima engine....and should appear this fall.
