Automatic Trans going?? Symptoms inside

Specs:
100K, 1997 GXE, Automatic

Background:
Not my car, but a close friends who i'm trying to help diagnose.
Just started a few days ago

Symptoms:

As soon as we started the car, in about 30 seconds a metalic grinding noise started. I think i narrowed the noise down to the transmission area. When i would lay on the ground with the car running, the noise seem to resonate directly from the transmission. To be more specific i would almost say it sounds like a metal coffee can and you have a couple of metal pieces in it and somoene is shaking it. The sound doens't go away if you put the car in drive/reverse or neutral. When gas is applied, rev up to 3000k rpm you can still hear it.

PLease help: Any other questions i can help answer on the symptoms please ask. Thanks

Brandon

Input shaft bearing?
Torque converter?

Have it checked out at a tranny shop.

Thanks again. Do shops usually charged to have something like that diagnosed?
