Clutch adjustment job from hell!!!!

Ever since I did the tranny swap last October I knew my clutch was disengaging way too close to the floor and that I needed to adjust the actuator rod length at the clutch pedal. I also knew that it was not going to be easy, having to work up under the dash and all, so I've been putting it off. I hate working under the dash. I'm not built for it, being sort of a beefy guy and not a contortionist.

Too make a long story short, I was able to lengthen the actuator rod, but I made it too long and the rod wasn't retracting back out of the master cylinder far enough when letting off the clutch pedal, so the clutch line wasn't holding pressure. Not sure how to explain it. So I get at it again and this time I went too far the other way and it was worse than when I started. I finally got it right the third time and found the sweet spot. This all took about four hours by which time I was drenched in sweat and suffering from knee scrapes, cut fingers, bruises along my side from supporting myself on the door sill, and a wrenched back. I had to call in sick this morning and sleep in till noon.

Next time I'm just going to swallow my pride and take it to a mechanic. I'm putting that on my list of things I pay others to do, changing tires being the only other thing on that list.

I am tall and big. And I used to do auto upholstry and stereo installs. Taking out the front seat(s) is a major improvement

I didn't even think of it.

Steve,

Did engagement point of the clutch change after it broke in?

When I installed mine it was really close to the floor. Almost to the point you couldn't disengage it. But, I could drive it, so I figured I'd adjust it later because I didn't want do deal with it.

After about 500 miles it now feels both the same as the stock clutch in pressure and the location of the friction point.

No, it never did. I figured it would over time, but it has stayed the same, and it's been about 18000 miles. Very strange. Guess I haven't abused the clutch enough? Maybe I should do some burnouts every now and then.
