I'm switching teams........again.

Hey all,

Well I started with the SHO's for 4 years, switched over to the GTP for 4 years and now I am going to get a Maxima....for 4 years maybe? I see a pattern. I've really dug Maxima's since they came out with the 5th Gen's, and then I knew I had to have one when they made them fast in 02. <-----That's not intended as a slam on any pre-02 Max's, your cars are quick also.....just not as fast as 02's.

Anyway, I was wondering if you guys could offer up some advice....there are quite a few cars I'm considering. I really would love a 6-speed but they are hard to find so automatics will also be an option.

OK,

#1... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=6400

Sweet car, 1000 miles????? The color is what kind of ruins it for me...I'm not a big red fan.

#2... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=6400

$16,900 for an 03?? Not bad, and only 23K for miles. For another grand I can have my leather installed. Nice car, me likey blue.

#3... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...6400#mainImage

OK, this is the car I really want your guys opinions on. Has anybody ever bought a car with a salvage title before? I mean this car looks perfect, and to be able to get it for under $12,000?? That's tough to beat.

#4... http://www.cars.com/search/used/cc/s...true&src=&cid=

This one seems a little pricey for the mileage.....but it's a 6-speed!! I really want a 6-speed!!!

Well there's a few others but these are the main contenders, if you guys can give me some opinions I'd appreciate it. It feels good to be joining your team....Maximas ROCK!! I did love my GTP though....but I figured if you get tired of beating them...join them. Sorry, cheesy but I couldn't resist. And I guess GTPguy97 will have to go also........ MAXguy02/3 will do.

ebay sucks...i would recommend autotrader bargainnews or cars.com before ebay, you always want to see what you are buying

Caveat Emptor

oh, and get the 6-speed, if you don't, you'll regret it

Yeah I have my reservations about Ebay also....but if I did bid on a car I would fly to the car to complete the deal. I will never hand over $$$ w/o seeing the car. And if I dont like the car, tough crap I'm walking away.....go ahead and leave me negative feedback! Who cares!!!

Well, maybe if you're talking stock form. I don't worry about any passenger car with the 3.5 VQ

Me either, or at least when my Max was boosted. Anyway, your next car should be RWD, just my 2 cents.

Really? Last I heard there were plenty of 3.5's running quicker than 14.45........maybe I'm wrong, I'm new to this Maxima thing.

But yes I was mainly talking about in stock form, I obviously know that there are pre-02's that will be modded enough to beat a stock 3.5. But let the 3.5 match you mod for mod and.......I'm sure you see what I mean. They're faster.

The same can be said for most drivers of any manual tranny FWD cars, they are not easy to get the most out of.

so to actually answer your question, a salvage title can be hit-or-miss... I'd never do it but that doesn't mean you shouldn't. Do you plan on selling it after 4 years? That title is going to be a pain if/when you do go to get rid of it.

and get a 6-speed... if you *think* you want it you'll regret getting an auto.

and any car can be modded to go faster than just about any other car... since he's talking STOCK, yes a 2k2 is faster than the previous years. And I don't fear any STOCK (or most lightly-modded) pre-2k2 maximas

Do yourself a favor and wait it out for a 6spd. Think about it this way. Do you really want to be stuck running 14.8s @ 93 stock when you could be running 14.3s @ 97 had you just waited a month or 2 longer to find a 6 speed? It's going to take ALOT of mods to make up a half second and 4mph. It's not just a pulley change away like on your current car. Were talking thousands of dollars. You of course know this but I'm just reiterating.

Later,
For the most part, the stock and modded (not many mods) 02+ 6 speeds are running 14.5-14.6@95-97mph. There are some that have gone lower 14s, but if you do some research you'll see that there aren't many of them. There's even one that's done 13.8@101mph (EMAX), but he has a custom y-pipe setup that most people aren't willing to try. At my track the 350s are running 14.2-14.4@99mph, ShortChaz's stock G35 sedan auto is running 14.7s@96mph, and VQMan's stock 03 6 speed is running 14.8@94mph.

The 02+ are definately faster than any 95-01 Maxima. "Mod for mod" really doesn't hold true when comparing the 02+ to the 95-99. The difference is the 95-99 Maximas are blessed with a much larger aftermarket compared to the 00-02+. The 95-99 also gain a ton more power with the y-pipe plus we have the JDM variable intake manifold and JWT ECU which give 95-98s amazing gains after 5000rpms. I think it's been proven an aftermarket y-pipe does nothing for the 02+ compared to the 12+fwhp the 95-01s gain. Intakes are another problem for the 02+. It seems like the MAF is much more prone to dying when you run an intake on an 02+. 95-01s never experience these intake problems. I think the only mods that have been proven to make decent gains is the UDP, cut stock airbox, nitrous, and slicks. I know the 02+ guys are eagerly waiting for headers from Stillen. An SC setup won't work either thanks to variable cam timing accuators on the side of the block.

The 02+ is a beastly fwd sedan with the torque you crave plus better topend than your GTP could ever have. Just don't expect to have many aftermarket parts available for your 02+. It is definately one of the quicker FWD sedans on the market plus it's an awesome cruiser.

Welcome to the club. I would have never thought you'd join us

Let's not forget to include blubyu2k2 and his 13.79 @ 98.4mph pass with just bolt ons in a 2002 autotragic.

Was your SHO an ATX or MTX? What did you do to it? (I've had two 2nd Gen SHOs) I would personally go with a 5-speed 4th Gen Maxima (95-99) and spend the extra money I was saving for the 2k2 on boost.

slicks are cheating and remember our track is 60' downhill and has nitrous in the air. Also remember if other .org members with sooper dooper fast maximas ran at our track they would gain 6 mph and a full second off there ET. Rockingham is 400 asl btw. I run consistant 14.2's @ 96-97 mph on 75-80 degree days on 52 lb boat anchors.

Seems you have a thick head but let me try to explain it to you again.
I have two cars one of them is a maxima, clear yet?

Thanks, I think I will skip the salvage title even though the car looks mighty sweet.

And I KNOW I want a 6-speed so I will hold out and get one, that one is in Manasass VA. Anybody in the DC area that could stop by Koons of Manasass and take a look at it for me?

dont get a car with salvage title because no insurance company will issue a full coverage policy! I'm also a former Grand Prix owner, you are going to be glad you switched.

Hmmmm, I've owned 4 SHO's, 2 93 ATX's, 1 94 MTX and 1 95 MTX. I've also owned a 97 Maxima SE 5 speed, and I now own a 98 GTP. Must be something about these cars.

I plan on keeping the GTP for now, but I may get another Maxima down the road. Its too hard to give up all this torque.
