Ouch, sorry man. I knew what happend just by the title of the thread I say get the the 2K-2k1 front bumper (the 2k2s with 2k-2k1 lights get hit as well) besides our bumper looks better anyway and get a pait of 2K1 AE headlights. I would say get some HIDs in them, but thats not even an option anymore. Retrofit kits are now illegal Atleast you can get a body kit with the 2k front. Try to take it easy man, you got insurance.

That blows

Is this mainly an east coast thing? I have just never heard of it around here...although all these stories have me kinda concerned - I might have to kick one of the "good cars" out of the garage if this starts happening too close to home...

North NJ (don't want to say more, sorry)

my factory alarm went off--did this happen to other people as well?

02seinstl: by looking at your sig, i would take extra precautions and park the mini and the maxima in the garage

Sorry to say, but IT'S GOING TO GET WORSE very soon, if not already.

Now that they banned CHEAP crap HID retrofit, the hoodlums are going to start preying more on OEM kits for parts, ie burners/ballasts.

Swap the 2K-2K1 lights or trade up to a G35 Sedan w/6spd for $27Kish, since they are harder to steal, so less prone.

Sorry to hear that bud!

I had not heard of this problem. Why would a thief be interested in the 2k-2k1 lights? Is it a case of mistaken identity?

Sorry to hear it, but there's a silver lining to every cloud... did you have paint chips on your hood? You need to make sure the hood was damaged.... get my drift?

on many accounts

1) the 2k2/2k3 with 2k/2k1 lights are NOT a target... unless you know of a market for normal headlights? I haven't heard of ONE Maxima who had normal (Non-HID) headlights stolen.

2) the 2k/2k1 bumper looks better? Whatever. It looks THE SAME.

3) retrofit kits are NOT illegal... selling them is illegal

Close to the same, but the 00-01 has a smaller grille so the bumper "goes up further" on the 00-01s, whereas the grille dips further down into the bumper top on 02-03s

02seinstl: thanks

Okay now insurance wants to see my car at 6:15 pm today. I have those bolts I bought from TimW. That part of the tab is still there, will they say anything about that? Like "the hood and fender was only damaged because you added that" I have State Farm if that makes a difference?

Thanks in advance

they never opened the hood, no?

btw, the Nissan anti theft kit also has tamperproof bolts. They dont want the housing anyway, they wouldnt have taken the time to unbolt them.

Tim... I agree, but the bolts still give security that they won't be able to get the housings and sell those for profit as well.

The 2K2+ clearly swallows more air and looks MUCH more aggressive from far away. If Stealin makes an AERO lip, I'm swapping.

That sucks...just the feeling of having YOUR car get violated right in YOUR driveway can feel worse than the $ loss.
How great it would have been to catch those a$$holes in the act.:bash:

Speaking of factory alarms, what's the specs on the factory alarm for a 2k SE? I know I can hit the PANIC button to make it beep nonstop, but what conditions can cause the factory alarm to go off under violating circumstances?

They steal 2k1's so they can sell them to the people that have had their HID's stolen. Double your profit! Never-ending business!

Sorry it happened tho...

Best place in the country to get an Infiniti is Grubbs in DFW. They have their own single car carrier and will send you the car if need be. Or pick you up at the airport.. I know that sounds crazy but people are ordering from all over the country from them and everyone is very satisified.

sorry to hear about it. I live on LI, and i saw an 03 near me with the lights gone. this is such BS. Nissan needs to own up to their mistake of making expensive headlights that can be taken in 20 seconds. I have tims bolts as well, but, they just rip the damn lights off the car, so the tabs break and there is nothing you can do.. Judging from your damage, you need to have both front fenders and the hood repainted. As for replacement lights, i would give the nissan HIDs one more shot. if it happens again, get the AE lights. There are guys on here that got hit 4 times. now, that would make me sell my car and get the G or the Z.... Hope it works out for you...damn nissan..

edit...

btw, make sure you get NEW NISSAn fenders if possible. I wouldnt want a new car with bondo on it. I would find a body shop that will give you new parts..

most of the time fenders on a new car are concidered (throw-away) bondo is unfortunately innevitable at some point or another tho.

Clicky Here

Honestly, I've paid UNDER invoice on all my cars, so probably even cheaper. However, I don't know the EXACT price until I order though, so I can't say for 100% sure.

If you're serious PM me.

His went off when the hood was lifted a bit. Also, unlocking any of the doors without the key (obviously key in driver only) will set it off. I do not know if the trunk can make it go off, I would assume that if car is locked/windows down and you pull trunk release, it would set off alarm.

Sorry to see that happened, its happened to me 3 times and its one of the worst things I've ever experienced. A virtual Pat on the back is all I can offer.

I tried seting up a petition back in March so that Nissan could remedy this, but it never took and I got more negative feedback than signatures.

The facts are.

1. You're out $1,500
2. Your Insurance Co won't like this, and might consider you a high risk (rate increase)
3. Whoever took you're lights knows you will replace them (more thefts)
4. The Nissan Kit doesn't work, the plastic clips are as brittle as chaulk and can be snapped off with a screwdriver.

Give Nissan's Customer complaint line a call and take your frustration out on them. Also file a complaint with the NHTSA, they'll investigate this problem when enough reports are filed.

Add me to the list as well.

2k2 hids are gone. Just the other day I was applauding how well the security was in my garage at work and now this. My friend just bought a new 04 Max and I went to the garage during lunch to see his car. I was checking out the front end when all of a sudden there was the garage security at my heels. I thought that these guys were on top of security here but when I went to go home yesterday as I approached my car the lights were gone, popped right out. I used Tims bolts and there they were, still hanging on to the cheap plastic housing. Torn right out. Now all the hassles begin. Car rental, days taken off from work. All this adds up in time money and shear annoyance. Hopefully I will try to get my front end painted out of this deal. The guys were pro's here, very little damage plus they cut very few wires and unplugged the rest. By the way Jersey City Newport Mall parking garage. Be aware!!!
