99.4mph traps in 91 degree, 60% humidity

It was a weird night last night at the track. BriGuyMax and I30tMikeD came out to my place so we could hit the track before Brian moves to Minnesota. Right off the highway on my first 4 runs I was banging off traps of more than 99mph, 99.37 being my best. I haven't trapped higher than 98.5 since back in April when it was 45 degrees out and I was at a faster track. I was running full interior, no spare or jack. We have one run on video of myself and BriGuyMax in his 350Z on my slicks but it was a bad run for me I ran 14.4 on that one. My best run of the night was 14.13 @ 99.14 with a 2.23 60' time. I could have gotten back into 14.0s but it didn't happen.

I also got banged by an E36 M3 with intake and a chip that ran 13.95 @ 100.4 to my 14.20 @ 97.0... my MEVI didn't open on that run or something, since all my other traps for the night were above 98 and some above 99.

Brian ran 13.6 @ 101.5 on my slicks, he could have gone 13.5 but the run he did his best launch on he almost lost control of the car so he let of and ran a 14.0 @ 79mph. Mikes best run was 14.75 @ 95, we've come to the conclusion his MEVI is not opening most of the time. Mikes car weighed 3130 and mine weighed 3030 with drivers.

Its nice too actually see a decent driver in a 350z thats not putting the car too shame. Mikes car is still damn impressive for an I30. We are both getting millenia wheels for slicks I just hope I can get them too seal the bead on 8" wide slicks. I want 100+ traps this winter and the addition of a rear section and GAB should put me close with weight reduction also.

99 traps in those conditions are awesome

Cant wait to go back to the track. The 14.9 @ 93 has got to go! Nice times

You guys couldn't have raced long because wundground.com reported thunderstorms at 8pm at Bryon, IL.

What did he run on street tires in his 350Z?
My friend with hgis 350Z 6-speed and me went to track last week, his best was 14.5 at 98mph with 2.38 60ft.
It was our first time ever at the track so we need to work on launching and we should get better times.

awesome times and traps, especially in that weather.

i haven't been to the track in forever. Maybe I'll hit the track up one weekend soon and see if my car can get into the 14's yet.

I really think my VI is no opening most of the time in 2nd or 3rd. I really should be running about .2-.3 quicker and 2mph faster. Me and neal have the same mods, granted his car is 100lbs lighter and he is a little better driver, but he really should not be a 1/2 second faster than me. I am going to check a few things like my Flex section and harlan switch to find out what's going on.

What track is that?

The 2.19 might have gotten you a 14.6. Did you change anything between this time and last time? You had mentioned you got a 14.9@93mph last time out. Looks to me like you were .2 and 2mph faster this go around and in hotter weather. Sounds like all of you were running pretty freaking good.

What kind of intake do you have? If you're running a midpipe, the switchover sound sound be very apparant. I could evne hear mine switchover last night even though I'm running a the intake resonator. If all else fails, run a toggle switch so that you can open the butterflys anytime you want. I've got mine setup like this because if I noticed my Harlan is flaking out (I've got it setup so I can see the LED), then I just hit the switch and butterflys open. No reason in blowing a pass.

US 131 motorsports park is where we ran.

The 14.9 @ 93 I told you about was last week at Rt66, I ran with my 52lb wheel tire combo that day. Yesterday I ran with Neal's millenia wheels which are a 30lb combo. I did runs with both the 17's and 15's yesteday, I ran .25 faster on the 15's.
I also just bought my own pair of millenia wheels and will mount street tires on them for now and maybe slicks next season.

I just got done wiring my harlan into the cabin of the car. later tonight, once the traffic clears up on the highways, I will make some runs to see if the switch is flaking out on me.
It always opens when I test it in nuetral, I think it just fails when it has to activate mulitple times in a row. The only time It feels or sounds like it doesn't open is 2nd or 3rd gear.

If the VI not opening isn't my problem, then I guess my car is just not all that fast.

Million-dollar question: Are you running a relay?

No, but isn't that just to make sure the harlan isn't damaged. Why would that cause it to flake out.

To answer the question posed, Brian ran 13.91 @ 100.5 at my track on his stock tires (car is still unmodded). His 60' was 2.09 if I recall.

Dave this track is much slower than byron in general. 03 Cobras trap 106ish, LS1s 6Ms trap 103-106, A 405hp z06 was there trapping 112. Last week under similar conditions I raced a Cammed GTP with 3.2 pulley and other stuff, and a GTP with Intense/ZZP rockers and 3.2 pulley and other stuff, both were trapping about 99.5.

Those trap speeds sound much like what I see at my track. Actually I've never seen a stock Z06 break 109mph and it takes a GTP serious mods to break 100mph. GTPs with the 3.2 pulleys, intake, exhaust, and ECU are only getting around 96-97mph. They still out ET me everytime though.

sounds like what they run at rockingham. I have a buddy with an 01 Cobra thats spraying a 150 shot only trapping 112. He put down 440 to the wheels too. Another Cobra 03 with 449whp and 452tq trapping 113. Everyone always says my track I usually run at is so fast but I see the same times from other cars as you guys see at your local track. I have never seen a 99+ GT stang break 97-98mph either.

Well I've seen nitroused Cobras trap 115mph, but that was in 50 degree weather. The 99-01 Cobras are only capable of 105mph traps on a good day, so adding 7-9mph to that with a 120-150 shot is to be expected don't you think? The 99+ Cobras are a bit heavy (~3500lbs). I've also seen plenty of 99+ GTs go well over 100mph, but they do have NA mods and the weather was far cooler.

I'm just stating that the track I visit most often seems too match the times you guys see at your tracks. And 112 traps for a car pulling 440 too the wheels and over 500 tq is expected?

There was a 01 GT 5spd there with intake, exhaust, chip and pulley trapping 96-97 all day.

There was also a turbo Hayabusa that messed up his launch and still trapped 165+ it was mean. It was on a street tire and had no traction bars, just a longer swing arm.
