With the Turbo setup now, what slicks should I use?
I currently have two sets of slicks on my hands. I have a pair of 22x7.5x15 inch M&H slicks and a pair of 28x8.5x15 inch Mickey Thompson slicks. Now, regarding the boost build-up that I get and the characteristics of the slicks, which set should I use? I am a 5-speed, with the VI, and soon I am getting the JWT 7k Turbo program on the ECU. Which pair is optimal for me to use in the 1/4 mile?
I have no idea because I don't know what sort of power you're putting down so I have no idea where your trap speeds will be. I'd venture to say that you'd have to darn near shift into 5th gear with a 22 inch slick... thats small even for an all motor honda. A 28 inch slick is massive. Personally I think you need a more normal size slick but no one will know until you get on the dyno or to a track to see what sort of ballpark you are in. Those sizes you listed are extreme sizes.
22" are too small if your pushing anything over 250 too the wheels in a 5 spd. Then again those beefy 26x8.5 might bog out of the hole bad. I would try the 26" first and see how they work out.
Ok a 26 is better. 28 is just huge heh.
Anyhow I'm using a 26x6.0x15. I finish around 6500rpm in 3rd with my mods. The gearing is hurting me a little bit. I purposely got the 26" when I didn't have the JWT ECU so that I could delay the 3-4 shift and ride the 1/4 mile out in 3rd gear. Now I need to go to a smaller (24.5 would be ideal) slick. You are making more power than me so I'd bet you'd definately have to shift into 4th even with the 26" slick. If this is the case you might as well try them both out. I've got to believe a 22" would be wayy too small. Do you have any dyno plots? I can sim it in Cartest and give you a pretty good idea of what to use.
