Thanks SoundMike, I just ordered the $80 ceramic. What is the difference between the ultimate ceramic and metal masters?

00MaxSE, i'm not sure what to say. I haven't used either one of them

SeOh2mAX, ditto on the above.

I'm going to get a set myself, but like you both it's a toss-up. I hear the Masters can get noisy while the Ceramics are better for daily driving. Might wanna check on what other people say about them.

I heard that the ceramics are softer and are more comfortable in daily use. Less likely to squeek. The cons are that they may have wear similar to or less than OEM pads. The metal masters are made of a harder composition of materials and grip harder to the rotors. They will wear less and last longer. They might produce more noise than the ceramics.

Personally, i have axxiss metal master pads in my Acura Integra. They were installed when i put in new brembo slotted rotors. Been on the car for a year already. Last weekend, my friend (and mechanic ) checked the brakes and he commented that they were in great condition, lots of wear to go. They never squeeked or faded however, i never had a noise problem in my integra. The maxima is another story... I'd be interested to try the ceramics soon, as i have installed new wheels on the maxima and wish to upgrade the braking system in the near future.

Hope my input helps.

Thanks for the GD. Always glad to see people helping out the .org community.

I've heard that our OEM pads are ceramic. Is this true?

Per their description:

The Axxis Ultimate brake pads feature a special Kevlar® and ceramic-strengthened formula with a high co-efficient of friction and excellent high temperature wear and fade resistance.

be careful w/the ultimates...they don't require warming up, but they're max friction is when they're hot.

They are called the axxis ultimate pad , not ceramic pad. Its a kevlar pad. Its one of the best high performance pads on the market, but they tend to squeel..

You guys might find this thread helpful for info on Axxis pads.

If you think you want Metal Masters, look into Deluxe Plus pads instead. They are as good or better than the MM's in every category.

Ultimates are higher performance but you get more dust, more squeal, and less pad life.

I've ran Metal Masters, then Ultimates on my WRX and my next ones will be Deluxe Plus for the street. The MM's were great and dusted A LOT less than the Ultimates.

Are the ultimates still available? Why do I want them for the rears? Cuz...
the hawk hp+ dust sooo quickly. I washed my rims and the next day they were dusty. But the rears are sparkly! So I gotta even out the dustiness in the rear...heehee

You should also get less rotor life from the Ultimates, i don't know if that was mentioned above as i only read the second last post, i'm just posting cause i want to see my updated sig.

Yeah, I've had my hawk hp+ for a month now...I didn't get them turned when I installed the pads, but they're soooo smooth right now. Pads definitely ate them up!

Do you need to turn rotors such as Brembo dimpled or crossed drilled when you want to put new pads?

i have the metal masters on my 96. they gave me lot of brake dust on my first few thousand miles with them on and a bit of squeal. but they work great now, i guess they needed a little braking/breaking in.
