Is this a good price for a 2k3 max SE?

when i was at service at my local dealer i decide to test drive one and see what price they can sell me....the one i drove has 16k all the option like cd, p-snrf, p-seats, except leather and it's auto....color of car is pearl white and with my 98 SE trade in they were going to sell to me for $16999....is this good price or should i shop around some more?

lol.... he is going to sell it to you for 16999 with trade it
if he gives you 7000 for your trade then he is SELLING you the car for 23999.

your trade-in has nothing to do with the selling price of the car

Tell them you wont trade and get the best price for the car that you can.
2-3k less then the asking price. THEN ask them how much for the trade.
if they wont give you much sell it on your own. subtracting the "trade value" of the car from the purchase price is a tactic/trick that the dealerships use to confuse you. Also, they are going to make money off your trade anyhow. and if they say they will be losing money they are full of **** !

go look at the car again...
look in the botton parts of the drive or passenger door, or elseware to see if it was a rental car... If it was you can talk him down another couple grand

dont forget to take location into consideration. that plays a big part in prices too. that could be a good price for where he lives..
