92 Octane/ 87 Octane Mix

Last weekend I got distracted by the wifey while reaching for the gas pump and I grabbed the 87 octane by accident! I must have pumped about a quarter tank when I caught myself. I then pumped in 92 octane to fill up the tank.

This got me to thinking about octane boosters. Are these recommendable in such cases?

Octane boosters from the little bottles are crap...barely bump it 0.3-0.4 octane so don't waste your money.

I'd forget about it UNLESS you have any signs of detonation, ie pinging.

Just don't drive your car hard while you have the 87 in the tank or you'll start detonating and pinging under a heavy load.

I think it should be fine...just a quarter tank of 87. I have been using 91 (highest grade available) and it works ok.

otherwise, I would just be careful with it and try not to boost too much as Danny (PCguru) mentioned.

I don't know what the big deal is about 87 octane for the NA motors. You do want 93 for optimum performance but I have never had a problem with 87 the very few times I have ever tried it.
