Radio Reception not so great!

I've been noticing that on certain stations I get a lot of interference and static pops and crackling sounds. My reception is decent, but its not what I would call good. I noticed that my mom's lexus gets perfect reception without any of the interference that I get. I have a 2000 Maxima GXE and an Alpine 7995 HU. I connected both the power antenna blue wire as well as the normal antenna adaptor. I don't get any of this noise with CD's so it has to be coming from the antenna itself. I want to replace this garbage antenna which is built into the ******* glass with something that will got rock solid reception. I'm thikning about getting one of those roof mounted antennas, but my question is how easy are they to install? Also how can I patch into the existing antenna wire, and how would I install a new antenna on the roof of my car? Does anyone have any experience with glass mounted antennas? If so , how are they?
