Can damaged engine mounts affect cars alignment and overall driving?
I know there are 4 mounts that engine uses. One Rear Mount, One Front Mount, One Left Side Mount and One Transmission mount that is on the driver side.
My dealer replaced Rear engine mount because it was busted after I went to track. Car was making very loud clunk/thump when taking off in first or reverse gears. After they replaced Rear Engine mount it fixed that noise, BUT my car drives like crap now.
It has much more play/loosness in the front and it feels more floaty now than it was before. Also, it follows the road much more, if the road has sligh angle to it the car will pull to that side pretty hard. Similar pull when braking too. Also that I noticed is when taking off in first gear and if I don't give enough gas, car seems to shack pretty bad. It didn't do that before as well.
My question is, can a damaged engine mounts make the car drive this way?
My car is at the dealer now, and they looking at it, but I have a feeling that will say the infamous "Hmmm, everything looks fine there sir."
Thanks.

I have noticed since the dealership replaced my rear mount for the same reason, that my car tracks very bad to the right when braking and accelerating. I haven't noticed an shaking you described. I have also noticed a big jump in torque steer when accelerating very hard, I have to really fight to keep it straight. SO I guess we still have the same probem. I think you said you had one, but just for topic sake, we both have FSTB's on.
My FSTB is off the car now and it doesn't make difference with it being on or off. Car still drives the same.
What I am thinking is that my Transmission mount that is on the driver side might be busted. I looked at it and as best as I could see I thought I saw that some rubber looked riped on it.
I am not 100% sure it is Transmission mount that is busted, but I started noticing that when I take of in first gear very so slowly and not give enough gas there is some rattling that comes up. It is coming from that driver side.
Question I still have and can't figure it out for now, is that can broken engine mount, like for example my Transmission mount that is on the driver side, cause the car to drive this way by pulling to sides and being loose in the front.
I know that engine mounts (In Maxima one rear, one front, one on the passenger side and one on the driver side(Transmission mount) keep the engine aligned and they keep the whole driveline of the car aligned as well.
I am thinking if my Transmission mount is busted it can cause the engine to move more to sides and maybe cause car to pull to sides and make it loose in the front.
I am bringing my car back to dealer so they can replace my BOSE stereo, I will tell them to replace trannsmision mount and see if that will fix the problem.
Hey Dany, I have never posted anything since on org, but as I read through your post I noticed we seem to be having the same problem. I have been complaining to the dealer where I purchased my car, that my front end was jumping too much and was very hard to control, but all they could come back was the traditional "cant duplicate the problem." Well the problem seems to be getting worse because my hard is becoming very difficult to control. So I took my car to my uncle who is a mechanic with his own business and he sees that the rear engine mount is broken. However, he tells me that my transmission mount is broken as well because the car is very difficult to control and every time the tranny shifts from 1st to 2nd gear and clunks hard. So I call the dealer and proceed to tell them how their incompetent technicians could never find the problem, but it took my uncle less than 10 minutes to diagnose my cars problem. Well to wrap it up, a technician from Nissan (from Gardena-here in California)will be looking at my car this Saturday (since my friend is a manager at Metro Nissan, and called them to look at the car) to inspect the car for further damage, since the transmission could have been possible damaged due to the broken engine/transmission mounts. Going abck to your car, has your car been fixed? or is it still exhibiting these problems?

oh man - i hope one of my mounts didnt break - noticed it after installing my b-pipe a few days ago- a clunk
underneath the chassis- coming off off first gear and when going over bumps- i though it was the new resonator/pipe wasn't secured right or smaking against that brace that goes across underneath the exhaust pie- then I remembered that i've been beating on the car lately(track two weeks ago) will get it checked morrow when i weld my tips on-
Is replacing engine mounts an expensive ordeal? what does it cost? I noticed alot of 2k2's w/this problem-

waht kind of rattle r we talking here.... engine rattle or strictly only when the tranny is engaged? i had these symptoms on my car a LONG TIME ago thought it was tranny thought it was everything.... rattle got louder found that it wasnt the tranny it was gettin noticale when i reved past 3k rpms and let off real quick with out a load on the tranny...on the down rev u could hear a rattle comiung from the top (somewhere near) of the engine bay nissan says that they took down the exhaust and the problem was in the fron pre cat (i cant confirm they really did pull the exhaust). i havent physically taken the front pre cat off to confirm nissans findings.
also after having a clutch replacement just gazing under the hood i look down and notice the the tranny mount only has 3 bolts goin into the tranny with 1 empty. i was like WTF. u could see the hole for the bolt actually offset by 1/16-1/8in. had it replaced. dont know if that could have screwed something up but its seems to be ok. im styarting to think that my mounts are bad or worn. deffinately want stronger mounts.
