Crossing state lines with legal / illegal mods........
Lets say you are traveling, now if you pass through a state that happenes to have someitng on your car either mod, tint, light listed as illegal, are you allowed to cross without being ticketed? will it only apply to a the state which your license is registerd to? or are you pretty much screwed if you leave the area where the mod is legal?
As long as it is "permanent"
per se. If you're using a radar detector and it's legal in your state then cross over to a state where it is not legal to use and get pulled over (e.g. for speeding), you could get a ticket for using the radar detector.
well a radar is not a "mod"...and it's only illegal in one or two states..virginia being one of them...when you cross state lines...signs say "radar detectors are illegal"...but if tint is legal in your home state and you roll into a state where it's illegal...they can't ticket you...
In NYS, if the car is registered in a state where it is legal to have the mod (e.g. 20% tints), then the ticket can be written, but is dismissed in trial. However, if the state has an explicit law banning the device (radar detectors in VA and DC, commercial vehicles w/ radar detectors in NY), and it is posted for the public to have knowledge of (there are signs coming into VA about the detectors), then you have no claim of 'I didn't know'.
I don't think it matters where your car is registered. If you drive into a state where say 20" wheel are illegal, they can still give you a ticket if they wanted to, even if in your state it is. Same goes with lights and stuff...

for example, i think florida is pretty liberal with tint..i think 20% all around is legal. i live in jersey where NO tint is allowed on the front windows. i really don't think a cop is going to pull over a person from florida with tint all around. that's like saying "entering NJ, please remove your tint from the front windows)...

Ahh but they tell you to remove your radar detector. They probably won't in the case of the tint and probably most things, but I think they just might if they are having a bad day. Especially if you are from out of state... you probably won't want to go back to go to court...
