WRX top end is weak! Terribly gutless!

I am on my way to work this morning on the highway and i am running at a pretty good clip(80mph). So i come upon this WRX and the guy moves over to the right but i notice as i pass by him , he hits the gas and he is now with me neck to neck making his WRX lunge back and forth trying to egg me on to race him. I drop it into 3rd and take off, he takes off too.I run it up to 130 and he is about 6+ car behind with no intention of catching up.So gutless i am saying to myself! I let off and he flies by me and puts his flashers on. Ok?.......

We get upon some traffic and now i am behind him, were doing 20 mph and traffic breaks, he floors it and so do i! He pulls a car and half on me and i rill his WRX in and pass him , not with ease , but at a pretty good pace.I look back and he is banging on his steering wheel ,obviously ****ed that his WRX is running out of steam! I shut her down at a 100 ,realizing and hoping he realize his car is inadequate to hang with the Max.

He goes by this time and gives me the finger......oh well sore loser....sucks to be him.

There are people who makes things happen , watch what happen , and wonder..........what happened? Which one are you?

Ha Ha, if you've driving WRX in Gran Turismo you would know how gutless they are at top end without changing their gear ratio.

but in reality, STI probably would do a LOT better on highways because its got 6 spd.

Good Race!

well the WRX is only 227 hp right? plus the AWD makes it bad for rolling acceleration. Good kill tho - why is it that people always get angry when a family car beats them??? Weird

I had some guy in a wrx with a coffee can exhaust flasher me too. I get next to the guy and gas it, he doesnt fallow at first, so I figure I shouldn't waste the gas. About 10 seconds later he goes flying by me, so I drop a few gears and give chase. Traffic appears ahead in the right lanes so he jolts in front of me- I'm gaining fast, we're both at our top end, I see his passenger looking back at me as i get close to him- he lets off. A break in traffic appears and he switches lanes to exploit it, I go for it too, but it took me a sec to get around the car next to me- so we're back where we started, him in fron, and me gaining. Same buisness, I'm coming up behind him and the passenger is looking worried, when I'm about a car and a half behind him, he puts on his hazards. I let off and let him go. I'm sure that friend in the front seat wasn't fooled about his 'win,' neither was I.

I love kill stories that are inflated.

Nice kill.

You had this guy by 6+ car lengths, in traffic... racing... thats over 100ft. at 130 mph.. in traffic... ok.

the WRX dyno is a lot like the 4th gen, is suffocated at the high end.
I expect that he/she was bone stock. You have a 40+HP advantage, I can't imagine how you good you feel about winning over such a car.

A hwy powered car vs a rally car.

I have got to say this is a better story than the "I owned a Tiburon on the freeway in my 2k2" stories last year.

Nice win, again.

the whole point of racing a wrx is one, its light as hell, awd and has *****. you can't just look at it as a hp advantage. they have a weight advantage over us, which can really have an effect. there's pros and cons for us and them..

Its AWD, which does infact make it harder to do a roll on race.

I can attest to the STi having more top end power. I am driving one all this week!! BTW, don't try to race one if you see one. It will be a waste of gas.

What exactly is a family car, because if its the 4 doors the WRX qualifies as well. To me its any car with 4 doors any car, E55's,540's. Maxima's etc, they all hold 4 or more which is a small family!

You ever sit in the back seat of a WRX? Unless the person in the front is a midget (or legless,) it is not pleasent.
I can put 5 ppl in my max no prob.

Put it this way, most of the maximas you see whose driving them, usually people with families. Now what about wrx's, most of those guys only have gf's b/c of the car, jk

Wow, great story. I'm surprise the Subey got creamed by the MAX. I thought they had the weight advantage over us. It doesn't seem like a heavy car but in print? my god, that is one hellva heavy car for a Rice Burner.

The STI has variable timing and intake, the WRX does not. If a car has 4 doors its a sedan, thats not a family car. Have you ever heard of a compact family sedan?

I'm sure if you got you passed by a 540 or C32AMG you would balk foul because those cars do not exactly compete with the Maxima. The whole HP advantage and all. My Idea for you is to find a WRX that is sitting on 260BHP and have your race with him and see how he does.

Really around here it seems like absolutely NOBODY knows that our cars will run. Every single person I tell that I have a maxima think their little lancer or civic is faster. It's hilarious

My thoughts exactly.
But those WRX drivers are ******, aren't they...and every Max driver is just damn cool.

Here's my question, how many guys on www.wrxforum.com are saying how badly they owned some Maxima the other night?
Just seems funny to me we bash on all these other cars out there. The WRX is a pretty bad a** car, no doubt about it. Don't get me wrong, my car is the best one I've owned, but there are some good ones out there besides ours.
My $.02

It just ain't fair if I lose!

A bigger engine, more powerful turbo, & 6-speeds help as well. Plenty of magazines and owners have complained about the WRX's gearing.

I do have to say that the first 3 gears on an STi are way too close together. I find myself cruising most places in 4th.

The gearing sucks but the shifter is buttery smooth and engages with a nice click. It is so much easier to find gears than it is with my short throw in my max.

But for long drives, I'll take my max any day of the week. Only a midget could ride comfortably in the back of a WRX

Well since I am a WRX owner and a Maxima(i30t) owner, I don't think they are all ******.
