Need help Locating some drag radials for rim size !

hey i have 16 x 7.5 rims. im looking for some drag radials and im not having much luck with this rim size. Im running 225/50/16's and I believe 215/55/16's work on this rim as well.

Im looking for any info, links, website or information leading me to some drag radials. I will need drag radials until i get new rims, which i can toss slicks on then.

Anyways im new at all this and need some help with proper drag radial size for my rims and weblinks.. I didnt know if they are supposed to be a bit wider or the same size thats recommended for street tires?

I used 225/50/16's on my 16X7.5 300zx rims that I had last year.

Worked ok. I didn't love them, and I sold them this spring.

try these.

they're a little wider, but you won't be turning that much at the track

since you have 7.5 wide wheels, these would work good.

I dont think those would fit on a 16x7.5 rim. They would fit on 16x8 rim.

Drag radials dude?

I thought you drive your car on the street on a regular basis....if so you prolly do not want to have DRs on your car all the time....

You need to buy a spare set of rims, i.e. 300zx or mellenia rims and mount the DRs onto them....

I would like to find out how much exactly more traction one would gain with DR over normal street tires and how much less traction they provide against the slicks.

Get 15" rims and 225/50 BFG G-Force drag radials. The shorter tire will give you better torque muliplication and the drag radial will gain you some traction. If you're pulling 2.16 60 foots, you might be able to break into the high 1.9s.

As for streetability, I would never run DRs on the street. They'll only last 3000-4000 miles and their cornering traction isn't near as good, especially considering we're FWD. Now if you had a Z28 or something, Nitto makes sweet drag radials that last 10-12K, but they don't have near the stick the BFGs have assuming you do a good burnout on the BFGs.

Spoke with luke at tirerack: what about this option ?
Tirerack:

I would suggest either a 225/50-15 on a 15x6 wheel or a 235/60-15 on a 15x7 wheel ...... I do have 15x6 steel wheels and with the tires the price would be $312.00 plus shipping. I really like this option because it will help to lower your gear ratio

A 235/60 is way too tall and wide for our cars. The 225/50 should be good. Remember that, like slicks, you must do a big burn out (2-3 seconds of smoke) and lower the psi to around 15-17psi to get the DRs to really hook.

DRs are more fun IMO....cause you get to say its a street legal setup.

I know a guy who cut .3 sec from going from streets to DRs...

Nealoc cut about .4 sec.........so if you look at that difference it doesnt seem that huge.

Plus has anyone really messed around with DRs on a Maxima??? I would really like to see some real world results.....

I used them for a full season at the track last year. Not worth the money at all.

I dropped from a typical 2.2 60' time to a 2.1X 60' time. They also lower your trap speed, because you use them at really low tire pressure.

If you're going to spend money on track tires, get slicks.

well after tips and info here and reading around ..i believe slicks are the ticket .. after much digging around nitto does make a 225/50/16 but its hard to find ... and it weighs 24.5 pounds per tire ..

i will try slicks or just use these toyo's

thanks..this thread will self destruct in 5....4.....3.....2.....1........!

I think very few have experimented with drag radials. The ones that have, bought the wrong size. If you're going to do drag radials, you have to get 225/50R15s. The 16" size is just too big and is too low profile. Granted the 225/50s are short (24"), but they do perform. The short 24" size is also ideal if you plan on running NA and using the MEVI/JWT ecu because you'll be finishing at the 103mph in 3rd@7000rpms and you'll get better torque multiplication from the shorter tire. The thing with DRs is that you need to lower the psi to around 15-17 and a BIG burn out is a must. A short burnout is worthless and the DRs won't perform. A few weeks back I was at the track with BSwithTF (Travis) whom has a full bolt-on auto with 225/50 BFGSs. Even with just a quick flash of the stock converter, he was pulling mid 2.2 60 foots. Barely a squeak would come from his tires and he took off. Me on the other hand running stock 15s, couldn't traction for the life of me. I was spinning and hopping all the way thru 1st with high 2.2 and mid 2.3 60 foots all night which didn't tell the whole story on how badly I was spinning after the 60'. Travis got a PB of a low 14.8 at nearly 94mph with a 2.24 60' and I ran a dismal 14.70@96mph with a 2.29 60'.

I'm sold on the DRs because they're less abusive on the tranny and you'll be able to compete in street tire classes. Maybe my driving or tracks in my area suck, but I'm sick of my consistent 2.2-2.3 60 foots. I've never pulled a 2.1 60'. With DRs, I think 2.0s should be easily attainable.

I am with mike. Get slicks. I don't think you will be too happy with the improvement you see since for the same price you can be another .2 quicker, have lighter rims and tires, etc. Only reasons i can see for DRs are street tire class racing and driving to the track with them on the car.
