Fun With Chrysler 300M...

So I never race especially on city streets, my Max is basically stock engine wise(automagic), but on my way to work this morning I'm stopped at a light and see in my rearview a 300M(probably 2002-2003) cuttin' people off right and left trying to get into the right lane next to me(I'm in the left lane). Once he's at the stop I look over and see a older guy maybe in his 50's wearing one of those old man Kango's. Now I never condone street racing, but I just know this guy thinks he's going to smoke me, so I figure I gotta represent the Maxima community and besides all the traffic is behind us and clear roads ahead.

So the light turns green and he floors it, I can hear his tires chirp(he's got the jump since I wasn't 100% sure he wanted to go) so I say alright, and squeeze the throttle and within a couple hundred feet I'm ahead by 3/4 car length. We come to the next light and I figure he's enlighten on the power of the VQ, but once the turns he floors it again and has jumped on me by half a car length. I'm thinking I'm gonna let this go....screw that! I'll give him a second lesson! I squeeze the throttle again, maybe about 3/4 to the floor and reel him in no time. We're even and I keep looking over to see what's going on, but he's just looking straight ahead with an angry face. So I shut it down(coming to my senses, we're on a 35mph zone) then before I can give him a he turns off. Not giving me any props! Oh well...

Thought I'd share this fun little encounter. Yeah, the 300M is rated at 250hp and 250lbs of torque so I figured it'd be a good run, but there's no doubt that the VQ out classes that engine. Thanks for reading.

Nice runs, however 300M's are very heavy and Maximas can take them easily especially from a standstill.

They run better on the highway once they are up to speed but the engine is SOHC and ours is DOHC<What I call a Do-Hickey.

I don't even waste my gas but I understand your need to put him in his place and represent the Maxima Community.

300Ms go 0-60 in 7.8 and 16.0 in the 1/4.
Yes, heavy cars.

They do make 300Ms with 300hp though. I think they are called the LM edition. I'm not quite sure though.

I roasted a 300m Special with my '02 and the guy driving it had a look on his face when I blew past him like he was standing still.

I still razz him about it to this very day since he is an engineer at the company I currently work for.

Yeah, if I was really trying I don't think it would've been close. His engine sounded like it was going to explode when he stomped on it.

I actually like the look of the 300M, but its engine definitely doesn't measure up.

You guys are hilarious, the dude wasn't THAT old. There's some members on here that are probably close to fifty, wouldn't want to offend them

I raced a 300M to some very illegal speeds this past weekend. He did better than I thought he would, but then again my Mustang is not a top end machine by any means. Once I shift outta 4th it's like 'wtf happened to the acceleration?!'

His might have been modded because it was a younger guy.

BTW we raced from likw 70mph - 130ish (i went to 150 once) It was 3 am on a road in iowa, so I think it was as safe as street racing was gonna be.

Yeah, I rented a 300M for a road trip that I didn't want to put the miles on my car for. what a POS

I was sooo glad to get back in my max. wasn't impressed with chryslers engine response or even the auto-stick. very sluggish. wanna be lincoln interior and the seats gave me a back ache.

..my $.02
